Overweight and natural birth

Hi ladies,

I'm 32 weeks pregnant now and just got back from a check-up with my midwife. From the start, it was clear that I'd need to give birth in the hospital due to a high BMI, but under the midwife's supervision. Now I've gained over 15 kg and my BMI has risen above 40. According to protocol, I now need to be supervised by an obstetrician. My midwife is making an appointment for me, and the obstetrician will check if I can still give birth under the midwife's supervision. I'm fully on board with this, but it does come as a bit of a shock. My pregnancy has been problem-free so far, and all check-ups have been great. The baby is growing well, really no concerns at all.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm curious to hear your stories. I feel fine and healthy, and personally, I think it'll all be okay.

Hi, yeah, I did that too but I'd never do it again.
There was nothing wrong with me either..but I did have a big baby (9 pounds)
Right before the birth I was induced because I suddenly developed pre-eclampsia so I had to give birth under the care of the gynecologist.
I would really always stay under the care of the gynecologist and give birth. It's not for nothing that they do this, it really brings risks with it for both of you.
When I actually wanted to go back to the gynecologist, the midwife made it difficult.
At the end it could turn out very differently (I got, for example, a fit) I never expected that either but that was a risk that could also be related to my excess weight.
Now my uterus didn't want to contract after the birth either with my second so maybe my uterus doesn't do that but it does have risks...
    Good luck with your choice...

    Hi

By adding 2 cm to my height, I was allowed to stay with the midwife. This was at the beginning, at 7 weeks. Otherwise, my BMI would have been 40.

This was my 4th baby. Read up on the reasons why they want that. I didn't find those reasons sufficient to have to go to the hospital, or to give birth there. If everything goes well, I see no reason for panic.

I've given birth at home 3 times and once induced.

With the oldest, I had a healthy weight. The baby weighed almost 9 pounds, the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th were 7 pounds. Being overweight doesn't mean you'll have heavy babies.

Went to the OB-GYN yesterday. She doesn't think it's necessary to keep going to her for check-ups as long as they can monitor the baby's growth well. I'm planning to give birth in the hospital but with my midwife's supervision. There's a file now, so if needed, the OB-GYN can step in. I feel good about how things are going now.
