Hi

We're expecting our first baby next February.
Now I'm busy looking into what a baby needs, including a car seat.
I keep reading about Isofix to click the seat into your car, but my Honda is already 17 years old and doesn't have this.
My husband's company car does, but if I'm home alone I still need to be able to get around sometimes.
Can this still be installed?
I'm not keen on buying a new car, since my car is always parked outside (no garage) and I don't do more than 2000 km a year anyway. I work within cycling distance, so yeah...
Any solutions?

You can just secure the Maxi-Cosi with the seatbelt too. There are still plenty of car seats available without ISOFIX. Also just with the seatbelt.

I don't think they can install ISOFIX in a car anymore, those are really hooks in your car. By the way, for the Maxi-Cosi you still need to buy a FamilyFix or something similar.

We both have ISOFIX in our cars here. The FamilyFix came with my car. In my husband's car, we secure the Maxi-Cosi with the seatbelts. Meanwhile, she's in a car seat fixed with ISOFIX. But we found plenty of seats without it too.

I have an Easy Base, which can be attached with the seatbelt, and then you can click the Maxi-Cosi onto it. My car doesn't have ISOFIX either, but this is a good second option. However, you can't attach a follow-up seat to it, but that one is currently just standard in my car (and it's easy to move to my friend's car if needed).

There are plenty of options for Maxi-Cosi. It just secures with the seatbelt.

I'd recommend looking straight into a seat that can be used rear-facing for longer. As it looks, that will become mandatory in 2017, or otherwise 2018.

We also got an Easy Base for our little boy. (Joie I Anchor is the brand of our seat, by the way, we're very happy with it). It's an Isofix but with (also) a seatbelt. It can also be used with Isofix, and even both at once! (Isofix and car seatbelt). So it's a base where you click the seat on.

By the way, Isofix can often be installed! Sometimes it only costs a few euros. Definitely worth a quick trip to your garage to ask. Isofix is nothing more than two iron pins through the backrest at hip height, which are attached with nuts/bolts to your car's frame.

Anouk: How old is your baby? If it's still a baby, it's important to carry the Maxi-Cosi well backwards. The Easybase you mention sounds like a good solution without Isofix. Just check if the seat itself is still safe for your child's age. If in doubt, consult with the health center.
