Hesitating between two girl names

Hi everyone,

We've been debating this for weeks, so I thought: let's post it on the forum, maybe that'll help us decide;-).
We're torn between Lauren and Mauri for our daughter. We both think they're beautiful names that you don't hear too often. Lauren feels very feminine, tough, but also a bit "kak" (bad), and that last part holds us back. Mauri feels tough and unique, but we're hesitant because we found out it's a boy's name abroad (though we do think it sounds really girly).
What do you think, and what kind of little girl do you picture with these names?

    Mauri is indeed a bit more challenging internationally.

    Could've been, but her second name has been completely clear from day 1 haha (name of my late mother).

    Lauren is strong, Mauri I find more playful.

    I went with Mauri because I find that name more cheerful.

    I totally get your doubts about both names. Maybe you could wait until your daughter is born and then decide? Or try saying both names out loud in little sentences. Who knows, maybe you'll then feel which name is 'more real' for you both.

    Another way is to hang the name on multiple notes around the house. That way, you keep seeing the name and eventually, I think, you'll feel which name fits best.

    I'd go for Mauri! Lauren comes up a lot more often, and Mauri is a bit different but still pretty normal, especially to pronounce.

    Or maybe you could do a combo? Laurien is also a nice name.
    Or Maurien/Maureen. Then you can still call her Mauri(e) without worrying about whether it's a boy or girl name. Which I don't think is really necessary anyway. I think it's a really lovely girl's name!

    Lauren is really beautiful. I think Mauri is nice too, but if it's a boy's name somewhere else, that would put me off. I don't think Lauren is terrible though. It's more about how you pronounce it hahaha. Nice and Dutch or with a bit of a posh tone.
    It's so lovely that the name of your late mother becomes her middle name. Very special!

    I think both are really nice Lauren maybe a bit nicer, but you do hear it more often indeed. It has a really beautiful sound. Very strong, but also feminine. I also think Mauri is beautiful and a bit more unique. I find Maudi even more beautiful. That's a bit easier to pronounce.
