Getting pregnant and breastfeeding

L.Guest ·
My daughter is 7 months old now, and my husband and I would really like to have another baby. But I still haven't gotten my period... I'm breastfeeding and I'd really like to keep doing that, but I also want to get pregnant again.
We've been trying for about 2 months now, and I take tests regularly to see if it's working. Of course, I don't really NEED to expect anything...
Are there others who are still breastfeeding and want to get pregnant again?

    Hi L.

I'm still breastfeeding my 15-month-old son. I did start the pill after 8 weeks though, just the regular one I was taking before I got pregnant with him. I got my period again then (artificial or real, I'm not sure really). In June I stopped the pill and got pregnant right away, unfortunately it ended up being a miscarriage 2 weeks ago.

I'd like to get pregnant again now but I have no idea when my ovulation is or if I'll get my period or anything like that, but I was fertile so hihi.

I was still breastfeeding when I got pregnant. I got my period again half a year after the birth and then started on the mini-pill. I finally stopped in January and got pregnant in March. At that time, my son was 1.5 years old. It was like this: when I was pregnant, he no longer wanted to breastfeed. I think the production went down or the taste changed. I didn't really worry about it because he only drank in the morning anyway. It was ultimately a nice way to stop. It went so naturally.

    @Amy,

That's really nice that your little boy didn't want it anymore. I have no idea how to get my little boy to stop haha, he wants it so badly. I really want to get pregnant again now (two weeks after the miscarriage). So you got pregnant again 6 months after your first baby? How did that work out with breastfeeding?

Okay, I'm only now really reading what you're saying, reading what I want to read, I guess haha

Did yours get going quickly with the second one, for example?

That's still a bit to wait and see. I'm currently 25 weeks pregnant.
But I'm not worried about it. I had enough milk for my little one, so I'm counting on it being fine now too.

Yeah, that's right. I think it's actually easier the second time around.

Enjoy your pregnancy and your little one!! And congratulations, of course.

    Hi,
You can definitely get pregnant. My son is also 7 months old, and I got pregnant without having a period. It's indeed tricky to test without a period. But you'll notice it naturally if you're pregnant: (besides the usual symptoms) sore nipples while breastfeeding or other signs. Here they drink greedily, though I think I drink less. Have you already had a positive test?

    Congratulations, Amy!
How are you doing now, MamaN?
We're a year further along now, and I'm still breastfeeding. In late November, I got my period for the first time again, and in early May, I was pregnant. It turned out to be a miscarriage at 4 weeks (around EDD). Six weeks later, I found out I was pregnant again with twins, but one stopped growing at 5 weeks and the other at 9 weeks. So much sadness! Despite that, my milk supply stayed steady, so I'm still breastfeeding. The miscarriages were said to be completely unrelated to that by my midwife and OB-GYN.
It's still suspenseful. I really want a second child! But we've been trying for 15 months now, and it's making me feel down!

Oh wow L., that's really tough. It remains a loss

How old is your first one now?

Things are going well here, I've got a 7-week-old boy now. I also continued breastfeeding until my oldest boy was almost 2. I had milk again right away for the second one, so it went well for me too. I didn't really have any issues with the miscarriage and breastfeeding either.

Hopefully, it works out quickly for you too!
