Biblical girl names

Dok
I'm 11 weeks pregnant now. Slowly starting to think about names. We've always had boys' names sorted, but I find girls' names difficult.

We'd prefer biblical names, but anything in that style is also welcome.

Unfortunately, many of those names are quite common. We're looking for a simple name with 2 syllables. Easy to spell and "Dutch". Examples:

Sarah
Leah
Sanne
Eva
Lisa
Mirt(h)e
Hannah
Esther

Who can help me find THE name??

Are Sanne and Lisa also biblical? I didn't know that.

Nice less common biblical girl names:
    Junia
    Sarai
    Noemi
    Yael

Some of these names have more than 2 syllables.

    Mara
    Anna
    Thirza
    Rachel
    Febe
    Saphira
    Dina
    Martha

Lisa is derived from Elisabeth. I thought Sanne was also derived from somewhere. But it doesn't really matter. It was more about the style, you know

Mara and Anna also appeal to me in terms of simplicity. The less common ones you mentioned, like Zomaar, are really not our style.

Martha does have something going for it, actually. Yesterday I came across the name Mieke. That falls into a similar category. "Classic old-fashioned" would I call it ????

Enough to think about again! Thanks!!

Hi, out of the list of names you gave, I think Eva is absolutely the most beautiful. Eva is the first woman in the Bible. The name also sounds good internationally. Good luck!

Vera. I'll definitely write that down (again). I also came across Elsa. Not a biblical name, but it has a Christian meaning (Consecrated to God). The only downside I see is that it's still so associated with the Frozen movie. Although that probably won't be the case in 20 years...

Interestingly, I also think Maria is a beautiful name. Though I don't think I could use it as a nickname. I find it a bit too much.

So far, I'm not yet convinced by THE name. Thanks for your input anyway!

(btw it's such a shame that Eva is so popular.. It's in 6th place with almost 600 times given last year. It's the name that really appeals to me.)

Maybe Else instead of Elsa? Or for example Maria with Mia as a nickname? Or Eva with an extra name?
    Or:
    Ella
    Ruth
    Rosa
    Judith

I think Maria is a really beautiful name, even as a nickname! I know a 9-year-old girl named Maria, and I'm the aunt of a 1-year-old Maria. I don't think it's too much as a first name at all. But everyone has their own opinion, of course. You could also use Maria as the baptismal name and Mara as the nickname.
    Other ideas:
    Jada
    Loïs
    Naomi
    Rhodé
    Ruth
    Tamar
    Mirjam
    Rifka
    Sifra

    Hi!
You say you like Martha, and coincidentally, I know a little girl named Marthe. Maybe a bit more modern but still in the same direction.

I’d also think Maria is a really nice nickname and not 'too'. Vera Maria also sounds gorgeous put together .

I’d personally never choose the name Maria; I’d go for the more modern Marie.
Besides that, I think Esther, Leah, and Rachel are lovely names.

What reactions! Really nice. I'll add to the list and suggest it to my partner

By the way, I find Marie sounds more 'old-fashioned' than Maria funny...

Rhodé, Jaël, Joëlle, Noëlle, Sara, Esther, Ruth, Lydia, Esra.
  15. E.V #16

Combination of Lisa and Sanne... Lisanne but it's not really short.

Next week is the gender reveal.. Then we'll know if we need these names

We’re definitely having a third son! So we won’t need a girl’s name this time either... Thanks, ladies!
  18. Emily Guest #19

Lovely, a third little boy! Have you already thought of a name for a boy?
  19. Dok started this #20

Yeah, pretty quickly again. We find it 100x easier

I just don't dare tell her here because I recently found out that my sister is here too and she's pregnant as well
