Pregnancy tests, ovulation and ovulation tests

I have no idea when I can take a pregnancy test and hope you guys can help me!
I stopped the pill on July 21 and got my period on July 23. Around August 15, I had severe abdominal pain and little twinges for 3 days; not sure if that has anything to do with it...
Since yesterday, I've been waking up at night with nausea (imagined or not).
Since I always had a long cycle (exactly 40 days) before taking the pill, I don't know when I can take a pregnancy test now. I do feel pregnant, but I'm well aware it's only the first round, so the chance is smaller that I'm already pregnant.

You can always try, it can't hurt
We're going to do a test next week. We've been trying since last September/October, and for the past two months we've been using OP tests.
