Heartfelt listening

Jessy
Good morning mamas and expectant mamas.
Today is the day again for a check-up with the midwife. They're going to measure my blood pressure again and listen to the baby's heartbeat once more. I wonder why I keep worrying and getting nervous every time, wondering if I'll hear the heartbeat or not... It's not that I don't enjoy it, but every time the nerves kick in and I don't know where to look... It feels like a kind of anxiety. Afraid of not hearing the heartbeat, I guess?
Are there other women who recognize this?
Kind regards
Jessy

I totally get how you feel! I think every pregnant woman is nervous in the early stages. After all, you never know for sure if the pregnancy is going well; things can always go wrong.

I felt exactly the same way at the beginning. But then I thought to myself: if something does go wrong, there's nothing I can do about it. Unfortunately, you don't have any control over it.

Since I started feeling my baby move and kick, that feeling has pretty much gone away. I know everything is okay, that there's an active baby in there, and that the heartbeat is strong. That really puts my mind at ease.

I understand your anxiety, but I think it will lessen as you get further along in your pregnancy! Trust your body.

Yeah, I usually feel the baby every day, but I haven't felt anything for a few days now. I'm trying to stay calm, but it's pretty hard sometimes. And yeah, if something goes wrong, there's nothing you can do... just the thought alone...

I totally get your nerves. It's completely normal to feel scared when you notice less movement from the baby, even if you were feeling it before. It's a good idea to stay calm, but also listen to your instincts. If you're unsure, call your midwife or the child health clinic. They're happy to help you with this uncertainty.
