Building your own name?

Hi everyone,

Do you think it's okay to combine two existing names to create a completely new one? That way, my husband and I finally found a name that's totally our thing, in terms of meaning (the second part is a short, existing name) and that sounds really beautiful to us.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Yeah, I like that idea... It's something really unique that comes from your two names, the egg and the sperm, after all, right??? As long as you both agree on it, the baby in question has to live with it for the rest of their life.

So I'm curious... what it's going to be for you two. After... name man, I don't know, so that's just guessing...

    Love, Ju

Nice idea, I'm curious what you've come up with. Are we going to hear about it?

The idea is nice, but I often don't like the execution. I'd really need to hear the name to have an opinion

Yes, how original do you want it to be!!
    That’s just ideal!

I think people should ask “How?” “Oh, that’s unique.”
You’ll never see me checking the top 10 or 20 names.
Those are exactly the names I wouldn’t choose. So do share!!

Oh, thank you all for the nice and encouraging replies! I personally think the idea is great, but I really wanted to hear other people's opinions.
@Ju, it's not a name made from my husband's name and mine, but from two other (Norwegian) names. You'll definitely hear the name in the end, but not just yet—my husband is still thinking about it and likes to keep it 'top secret', so I respect that.

@Olivia-Anna: We also want a name that you don't hear often. We looked for a unique name for our son back then too; he already existed at the time and his name is Thorben. I always had multiple classmates with the same name and found that soooo annoying as a kid!!!

Thanks everyone, and if there are more opinions, bring them on!!!

    @ Natalie,

Hi there, of course I respect that you haven't revealed anything yet. Thorben is very beautiful, Thor and Ben are super, so he's probably already a bit of a muscular man with lots of strength. Thor is a God and Ben is the firstborn, beautifully chosen, Natalie.

We also want and have a name that you don't hear often; only the last name you hear more often, but that doesn't bother me. The first two, I hardly ever hear, and that's what we want. We were quick to decide on the names for both a girl and a boy.

    We're having a boy...
For the girl, I can now tell you what they're having, we're not:
Julliëtte Sophie Maria.. and we think these are beautiful names, our daughter would have been called that if it had been a girl...
The name for the boy is, just like with Natalie, top secret and we're not telling yet, there has to be something kept secret.

    Love, Ju

Wow, Thorben, I'd really love to hear that, and when it comes to boy names, I'm actually quite picky!!
So I'm curious about the result of your second one,
    but I'll patiently wait

    Same for you, Ju.
I like Julliette too! (if you don't pronounce the "te" at the end, otherwise I find it a bit old-fashioned)
    I'm also curious about yours!!!

@olivia-anna, I just think Sheikh sounds great, I like that, and you don't pronounce it like that. How are you doing? I'm just at the birthing center :-) sleeping so well....
Just a little longer and then it's November. Do you know the name yet, love?

Thanks for your replies. We're still not quite sure, so we'll let it settle for now. I haven't even started on the sugar or the birth announcements yet; I really need to get around to that...

Also, thanks for your lovely words about my son's name; he really lives up to it! In Norse mythology, it stands for strength. Thor = thunder god and -ben comes from bear, strength... We're quite proud of that name, hehe

I'm already curious about your names too! I think Jülliette is beautiful too, but for me personally it's a bit too common. Or too well-known. Well, I'm being very picky, I suppose; maybe I have too many demands, I'd like to search in the unknown
