First baby and a teenage dog

Hi everyone!

I'm 35 weeks pregnant now and feeling pretty good. (Except for the sleepless nights.)

We have an 8-month-old dog who's going through puberty. He's very calm indoors, but walking him is quite tough due to hormones. (e.g., pulling on the leash.)

I sometimes worry quite a bit about the future... How will we manage walks, etc., once the baby arrives? I can ask my parents-in-law for help, but I only want to do that if necessary. (Which I do occasionally now.)

Has anyone got experience with this?

Cheers

No experience with that, I have 2 cats at home. But that's why I've been searching a lot for how to safely introduce pets and a baby to each other. I came across that with dogs, you should at least make sure they listen well to you. And that it can be handy to follow an extra obedience course together with the dog so he listens better and doesn't pull on the leash, it doesn't seem pleasant to me if the dog pulls while you're also pushing a stroller. Maybe you can use this.

    Hi Cloudlet,

That's indeed tough, and since you're so far along in your pregnancy, it's harder to make sure things go smoothly. The dog is now going through its teenage phase and will test your boundaries. We also have a young dog, and it's only just now calming down and stopping all the crazy antics, and it's already 2 years old! Lots of training and staying consistent is rule number one.

    I have 2 little ones, almost 3 and 1.5, and I'm 24 weeks pregnant.
Our dog is almost 6 now but very excitable, especially when walking, particularly when we meet other dogs.
I often keep him on a short leash when other dogs come around.
But otherwise, he's on a long leash.
Ours is protective towards the kids.
He stays as close as possible to the stroller.
If you already have the stroller, I'd say practice getting your dog used to staying next to it.
He can also get used to the stroller.
