Have the coil removed

Hi everyone,

This is totally new for me but I thought I'd give it a try. On June 13th I had my IUD removed because we're trying for a baby. Right after getting it removed I had some bloody discharge for a few days, and then about 28 days later it happened again. Today I got my period for the first time. I hadn't had a period in 4.5 years and suddenly I'm getting them again this morning. That's quite an adjustment, let me tell you! My hormones are going wild! I also always struggle with 'depressive feelings' during that time. I don't feel happy. I'm a qualified social worker (graduated 1 year ago) and I work in a supermarket. I've been with my boyfriend for 4.5 years and we bought a house last year. When I'm in a bad mood I try to look for courses, hobbies, something to cheer me up, but at that moment it doesn't work. Do you guys also get those mood swings? And what do you do? I hope to hear from you!

That's really tough, I'm sorry you're dealing with those depressive feelings. I used to have them too, which is why I got an IUD inserted (Mirena). Since then, I've felt much more stable, but I'm having it removed next year, so I'm already dreading those depressive feelings and mood swings again.

I'd get negative thoughts more easily, which made me feel down. Maybe it helps to write (or type, of course) those negative thoughts out? That way, you might gain more insight into what you're actually thinking and why you feel so rotten. And maybe you can then put things into perspective a bit? Sometimes meditation can also help.

Anyway, make sure you don't punish yourself for feeling down. Sometimes you just feel that way for a bit, so take good care of yourself and be especially kind to yourself. Try to avoid things you don't feel like doing (if possible). Hope this helps a bit!
