Hi everyone, I have a quick question.
I read everywhere that people can tell when they feel a little hand or foot. And that you can even feel how the baby is positioned in your belly.
I'm now 26 weeks pregnant and feel the baby move a lot, but I wouldn't know how to tell if it's a hand, a foot, or something else.
Can someone tell me how to distinguish between them?

That's really tricky. Especially at 26 weeks because the baby isn't that big yet. If you put your hands on your belly and press first on the left and then on the right, the side with the most resistance is the side of the baby's back. You can feel a head as a hard ball, often low or high in the belly. You can recognize the bottom as a soft ball, and the body moves back and forth if you move it between your hands. Otherwise, ask your midwife if she does an external examination during your visit.

Okay, thanks for your answer! I'll ask there too, yeah.

Hi Marieke, during my 42-week pregnancy I never really managed to tell what I was feeling. My placenta was anterior, which dampened a lot of the movements. But towards the end I did sometimes see buttocks showing in my belly? And a foot was visible too. By the way, if your baby has dropped and you know how they're lying, you can often guess it.
