Quick second baby?!

Hi! I gave birth to a beautiful daughter in early April. Now my husband and I are really keen on having a second baby. We were planning to stop the pill again in November. Any mums with experience of kids with a small age gap? It’ll probably be pretty hectic. I’d love to hear any experiences, tips, or comments...

Hi! I’ll do it, but personally, we went for a second baby when our son turned one.
We hoped for a second miracle around his second birthday.
But things turned out a bit differently.
    Namely, 14 rounds.
Our girl just turned three months old.
And our son will turn three in May.

    Hi Jolien 92,

I was thinking about having a second child a few weeks before my first one’s first birthday. That one came after just one month, so there’s now a gap of 1 year and 8 months between them.

I consciously wanted it because I thought it would be nice for the kids. And it is nice, but there’s also a whole other side to it that I’m experiencing. They fight a lot because they’re not that close to each other. There’s also a lot of competition. Whatever one has, the other wants too—pfff.

I found the second pregnancy quite tough. I felt awful with the nausea, and later on, I had back pain, and I couldn’t explain it to her yet. She was full of energy while mom was super nauseous. That wasn’t easy; I underestimated it.

I was lucky that my husband helped a lot, but you’re constantly running around with two of them. You can’t really follow the first child’s development because you’re already busy with the second one. I feel like I’ve missed a bit of my first child’s growth.

But anyway, that’s my experience with it. Others might experience it differently.

Now, I gave birth to a third girl in March, and I’m experiencing it much more relaxed now. My oldest daughter now understands that the baby is still small. She finds it super fun and helps out too. She’s really like a second mom Now I can explain to her that I’m busy with the baby for a moment, which wasn’t possible before.

What’s nice now is that they’re both toddlers and have little secrets together. They also share things about school together, the things they’re experiencing.

But if you ask me how I’ve experienced it, it’s been tough years and still is.

    Good luck with your choice.

    Thanks for your replies.
I really think they'll be tropical years then, yes. And busy! But that they'll have more to each other in the long run.
Nice, honest answer! If you're struggling with your pregnancy, you'll indeed have that little one along with you. Luckily, my husband works early shifts and is home for a big part of the day because of that.
We still need to talk about it a lot and think it through well..

Hey Jolien, congrats on your little girl! I gave birth to a son in September and am now 24 weeks pregnant with the second one... there will be a difference of 1 year and 3 weeks between my kids. Just under 13 months

This wasn't planned and I had to let it sink in for a bit. Especially the impact it will have on daily life. By the way, I was very nauseous for a long time with #1, which I was really dreading. I hardly had that this pregnancy. So it can really be very different I am very tired though and completely drained after a day with my now active guy (he can already stand and loves to climb everywhere and crawls everywhere....especially where he's not allowed to go hehe) He also doesn't sleep through the night yet, so I'm up a lot at night too. But aside from the tiredness, I can't complain.

I'm also preparing for a tough period (2 little kids who both need a lot of attention....nightly adventures of 2 babies at once), but it also has something very beautiful. I've heard from many mothers (who have kids close together) that they'll play together a lot in the future. My sister and I are also 1 year and 4 months apart and always got along well.

And someone recently told me "you know, there's always something. When they're 2 you'll have the 'no' phase, you'll be dealing with potty training etc."

I just say go for it if it's your wish/dream, follow it and don't think too practically.

I'm currently 5 weeks pregnant with baby #2! I have a little girl who's 7 months old. The age difference between them will be 1 year and 3 months. I'm looking forward to chatting along!

After talking about it so much, we're just going to do it. I still have the pill until November, and then we're going for it again. Er is indeed always something. And it'll be very busy, but definitely worth it if it's meant to be for us

Good luck, Jolien and it's nice that you've got it sorted out.

It might be a couple of "tropical" years ahead, but on the other hand, it's also a lot of fun. My two oldest can now have really nice chats with each other, but they also make quite a lot of noise. But yeah, that's part of it. I wouldn't choose such a small age gap again if we ever went for a fourth.

Let us know here if you're pregnant?

    Best, Madelene

My daughter is 13 months now and we're in round 3 for the 2nd . Sounds busy indeed, but above all, especially cozy. Two kids close in age

That's lovely, Chantii! Also exciting then
The age gap between my two oldest daughters is exactly 1 year and 8 months. Personally, I wouldn't choose that age difference anymore if we ever went for a fourth.
But the situation is what it is now, and of course I'm enjoying my little prince
    Nice, I'm curious, Chantii.
