Slow-acting thyroid

Hi,

I have a slow-acting thyroid and I'm now 5 weeks pregnant.
The values are too high and I just got a call saying my antibody levels are also too high, so now I have to go to an internist.

I was already extremely worried about everything that could go wrong due to the thyroid, but now I'm completely freaking out.

Can someone who has experience with this explain a few things to me?

    Hi Iriske,

    Thanks for your reply!
I'm already taking medication, but it wasn't doubled, just increased by 0.25, and now I have to get my blood drawn again in 6 weeks.
The GP referred me to an internist, which I actually find quite nice.
You're reassuring me a bit, thanks!

I hope you get pregnant soon!

    Greetings,
    Rose

I also have a slow-working thyroid and I'm pregnant for the 2nd time now. With my son and so far no problems with my thyroid. My medication was increased from every other day 50 or 75 to every day 75. That's enough for me. I also get blood tests every 4 weeks.
I don't have antibodies against my thyroid though. So I'm not familiar with that. Have they tested you for that before?
I think it's nice that your GP refers you to an internist. Those are the people with more experience with this.
I know that my GP also had contact with an internist during my first pregnancy to discuss everything. Gives a nice feeling.

I definitely know an old colleague who found out during her pregnancy that her thyroid values were so bad that logically she shouldn't have been able to get pregnant at all. And she gave birth to a healthy baby anyway. So you definitely have 2 positive stories.

    Hi Amy,

Thank you, that puts me at ease!
It's nice that 75 is enough for you; I'm already at 175 but that's okay as long as it helps.

I think I had this during my previous pregnancy too, but it was never checked back then. It wasn't until a couple of months after my delivery that I wasn't getting better, so I went to the GP. Even then, she didn't know what it was and had me get my blood drawn just to be sure; it was really high.

It's great that everything is going well for you!

    Thanks again!

    Hi ladies,
just sharing my story here.. we've been trying to conceive for a year now. After two miscarriages right after each other (6w and 9w) in August and November, we haven't been able to get pregnant again. My cycles are also quite irregular, ranging from 29 to 60 days, and this month we tried Clomid for the first time. Unfortunately, my eggs didn't respond to Clomid.
After another blood test (for the umpteenth time), it turned out that I have significant abnormalities in my thyroid values, and these need to be stabilized first before we can continue... Has anyone here experienced this? And how long did it take before you could (re)start?
I already have an appointment with an endocrinologist on Thursday, but I'd really like to hear your thoughts first.
    Thanks!
