Diastasis?

Hi girls

I'm currently 39 weeks pregnant and a friend pointed out the phenomenon of 'diastasis' to me. I read that you're allowed to have a maximum of 2.5 cm separation between your abdominal muscles during pregnancy, but when I checked myself, it felt like more than that. My midwife never mentioned anything about it, nor did she ever say I shouldn't get up from lying on my back, which I've done throughout the whole pregnancy, so apparently that wasn't ideal. I also feel like I have quite a big bump for my frame (1.62 m and 52 kg before pregnancy), and I've gained quite a bit of weight, even if it's not really visible.

So now I'm worried I'll end up with a lasting diastasis after giving birth. Has anyone here experienced this? Did you notice it during pregnancy or only after?

I hope someone can share some more info!

Love

If I were you, I’d ask for advice from a physiotherapist. I don’t know about it, so unfortunately, I can’t give you any advice. Good luck.

In corsets, attention is usually given here - if this doesn't happen, it's a missed opportunity. Now you can't do much. After childbirth, you can make appointments with a physiotherapist for proper posture and movement, and start 6 weeks after childbirth in a thorough postnatal group where these matters are addressed - not everyone has the same body! Perhaps a lot will heal itself. Only in very special situations is the diastasis treated surgically. There is still a lot you can do yourself.
