name for 2nd son (Marcus, Maurick, Nathan, Fijs, ...?)

I'm 27 weeks pregnant and we're having a second son. With the first pregnancy, we didn't cut the cord until 3 hours after birth before deciding on a name. So the name stress has already started for me now.
Our first son is named, his name is Koert. I had some doubts at first, but he's a real Koert now :-)

We're considering these names for our 2nd son:
-Nathan (a friend of my sister-in-law has a son named Nathan, and I get baby clothes from him)
-Marcus (the little boy next door is just called Mark)
-Maurick (a bit afraid it'll have too much 'mauw' sound)
-Rembrandt or Siebrand
-Fijs (my husband likes it less, unfortunately)

What do you all think? I'm really curious about your opinions! By the way, for a girl we would have chosen Merle.

Best wishes,
Saskia

    Fijs sounds really nice!

    Nathan or Marcus!

    Marcus
    (morris) any option?

I think Siebrand is nice. You don't hear much about it. It's something different for once.

    Marcus is nice too.

Marcus is the frontrunner :-) Don't you think it's weird that the little boy next door is called Mark? They're pretty good acquaintances... I also don't think Mark is a nice name at all and wouldn't want Marcus to be shortened.
What associations do you have with Fijs? Is it maybe a bit obscure and popular (that's what my husband thinks..)?

    Thanks everyone for more reactions!

Mark and Marcus are two completely different names to me. Mark isn't really my style, but I think Marcus is really beautiful! I wouldn't worry about that at all.
Fijs isn't comparable to Marcus to me, because I find Marcus 1000 times more beautiful

Hihi, thank you!! My husband will be happy to hear that :-)

    Mathijs :-)

We ended up dropping my favorite, Marcus. I secretly asked my mom, and she immediately said it would be Marc and that it's an abbreviation of Marcus. Too bad...

What do you all think of:
    Raul or Raoul
    Maurits
  10. MamaN #11

I think Maurits is nice too. I find Raoul too "macho" or something????
  11. MamaN #12

Sorry for the question marks, that was supposed to be a smiley ...

Fijs sounds lovely! Where does that name come from? I've never heard it before. I'm also looking for something special for my second son.

Fijs is a new name. It doesn't have a meaning, which I personally find a pity. What's your first son's name?
  14. Anonymous Guest #15

Yes, I couldn't find any meaning info for Fijs either, although I do see that it's a name that's been given to other kids before. My son is named Ceel. It's a rare Brabant name. We named him after my grandma Celine. I think Fijs is really a nice name. But I'd rather pick a name that already has a meaning or exists, but is still special and uncommon. With Ceel, we're always having to explain/spell it out when people ask about his name.

    Good luck with your search!

If you thought Marcus was nice, what do you think of Magnus?
  16. Anonymous Guest #17

Magnus isn't really our thing. We'd rather not have a 'g' since it's already in the last name. It sounds too harsh together. But thank you!

    Nathan!

    Marcus

    Marcus
