discharge

Maybe a bit of a weird question, but I'm 19 weeks pregnant now and for the past 2 days, when I need to go to the toilet, I have quite hard stools and it really hurts (sometimes there's blood). I also have to strain quite hard... Can this be harmful? Or what can I do about it? Never experienced this in my previous pregnancies.

Greetings, Anne

Hard stool is also a pregnancy issue,
Talk to your midwife about it, maybe she has a solution.
Make sure you get enough exercise and eat plenty of fiber.

Hi, your intestines get pushed in all directions. Make sure to drink plenty of (water) and eat lots of fiber, as Dani says.

    Hi Anne,

Just like Dani and Evelien, drink lots of water and eat plenty of fiber.
Also, try getting ground flaxseed from a health food store or supermarket.
    And Roosvice Laxo...

    It helps me a lot..

    Best, Ju

Flaxseed (ground) and flaxseed oil can really help. But when you start eating more fiber, you also need to drink more, otherwise the constipation will just get worse. You can also use lactulose; it's a laxative that isn't absorbed into the bloodstream but instead draws more fluid into your intestines, which softens the stool. Feel better soon!

Breakfast cookies also have a bit of a laxative effect... No bananas...

    Good luck!

If you're considering using laxatives like lactulose, it's recommended to consult with your midwife first.

    Totally with you, Dani :-)
