Ole, Lasse, or Kalle?

We like Ole the most. However, when I see the name Ole written down, it looks like "on-af" (off). Very short. I don't have that feeling when saying it out loud. I catch myself reading it as "Olé". My fear is that the name, for example in a new class, only needs to be read once as "Olé" by the teacher. And that my son will never get rid of that nickname. Realistic or not? I would dare to make it Olen (still pronounced with a silent /e/), my partner is less okay with that. What do you all think? Of the 3 names, which is the best then? I find Lasse cool. Kalle is nice, but would be a swear word in Belgium.

Ole is such a beautiful name! I wouldn't pronounce it as "olee" at all. But I totally get your concern. I'm not so fond of Lasse and Kalle, though.

    Why no Ollie!

Honestly, when I read Ole, I heard "Olé" in my head.
Ole is actually quite nice, but I completely understand your fear. On the other hand, I think Olen is really, really lovely! That would be my choice

Maybe the name: Nolen. Is that another option?

Just Ole because you like that one the best, otherwise Kalle.

I get why you're worried he'll be teased with Olé. At first, I read it that way too. So I wouldn't go with that name. A few pranksters at school and there's singing whenever your son is around. And it does seem a bit unfinished. I think Olen is a better option. Though there's a chance people might hear it as Owen.
Personally, I really like Lasse! Strong name!

    Yes Lasse!

Ole! Beautiful Scandinavian name. To avoid any confusion, you could make it Ohle.

Thanks for the last suggestion from Ohle. Not bad. But isn't Olen just as good? My boyfriend is afraid again that Olen will actually be pronounced with a hard N at the end. While I think people from the south of the Netherlands don't pronounce final Ns anyway. We are Brabanders. But with someone from north of the rivers, you only have to tell them once what the correct pronunciation is. Ole with the risk of Olé is prone to bullying. So annoying. It's the only name we both find beautiful. But my boyfriend backs off if we change the spelling

If you both like him, I’d seriously consider him.

Whether they sing “olé olé olé oleeee” or come up with something else, kids will come up with something anyway. My last name is Kruis, and I was called Marlies Kruis “tietenfornuis” (boob stove). If they want to, they’ll always come up with something.

I'm from Brabant but I'd say oo-len... Sorry.

    Lasse looks nice
    Ole feels a bit odd
Kalle in West Flanders = dumb wife
