Trying to get pregnant for 1 year

I'm 22 myself and my boyfriend is 25.
Around 18/19 I was told I couldn't have children due to being underweight. At that time I also didn't have normal periods and they didn't know if I'd ever had one. I've been at a healthy weight for a while now and have a normal, regular period.

To find out if it was due to my underweight back then or something else, I had a laparoscopy. It showed everything looked fine except that I have little to no cervical mucus.

I've been trying to get pregnant with my boyfriend for a year now and today I decided to call my GP to get checked again.
Before I started trying, I went there once, but they didn't want to examine me until I'd been trying for a year.

I'm really nervous now and scared that something might be wrong..
I have to go on Thursday so I'm very curious what the doctor will say. I'm also afraid they'll comment on my age.

Does anyone else have experience with this?

Why would they comment on your age? It's a lovely age anyway. Or do you mean you're worried that your GP will say you should just keep trying because you're still so young? Unfortunately, in the Netherlands you have to try on your own for a year first (I think Belgian ladies only have to wait half a year, but in Belgium things are better organized than here...) before you get help. Just wait and see what your GP says on Thursday. Luckily you can get help quickly. I hope you get thoroughly checked anyway. If you know that everything works as it should with you, that's reassuring. Good luck on Thursday.

You're not too old for your age, I was there at my (just) 20th birthday and got help just like any other woman with fertility issues, without any judgment. After half a year, even, instead of after a year (just in the NL). You have a medical history which they certainly won't ignore and will help you quickly.

Perhaps you could take wheat germ oil to support your lining. It's not something doctors prescribe or anything, it's just available for purchase and can't do any harm.

Wishing you lots of success, hopefully you won't have to wait much longer!

    Good morning,

Thanks for your replies, Crumb and Chantieeee!
I was indeed afraid that, because of my age, they would tell me to just wait a little longer.
What exactly does wheat germ oil contain?

I went to the doctor this morning, and he indeed saw in my history that during my laparoscopy it turned out I don't have an ideal uterus because the lining is very thin or non-existent.

Since I'm right around that 1-year mark, he advises waiting a few more months so you can show that you've visited the doctor more often, tried for a bit longer, and aren't being too obsessive.

The doctor now gave me a choice: he wants to contact the gynecologist right away to get examined, or I can wait a few more months. He also said that any procedure done might damage my uterus a bit...

And he emphasized that it shouldn't become an obsession, because then there's a chance it won't work out because of that.
Actually, things go pretty well throughout the month, but towards the end of the month I always get a bit nervous...

So now I have to think carefully about what to do. I definitely want to get checked regarding my lining, but I'm not sure what's the smartest move: waiting or taking action right away.

Wheat germ oil is an oil that improves the buildup and blood flow of your uterine lining. So it makes your uterine lining thicker. Keep in mind, if your thin lining has a certain cause, it won't work, but it's one of those remedies like 'it can't hurt'.

Personally, I'd just go for further investigation as soon as possible. I think the damage from tests will be manageable. But the most important thing; do what feels right for you. You want a child, and preferably as soon as possible, and you've already been waiting a year!

Crumb, I'll have a look around and if I come across it somewhere, I'll try it.

I'd really prefer to have it the same, because I just want to know what's wrong and whether something can be done about it, especially since I know it's not quite right.

I'm just afraid they'll say I'm too obsessed with it. Of course I'm concerned, but not obsessively, in my opinion. From day 1, I already had in my head that it wouldn't work out because of my past.

I'm going to discuss it briefly with my partner tonight, because I feel we should agree on this together, and I already feel a bit guilty towards him since it's my body that's the issue...

Even though I knew there was something with my uterus, it still hit me again this morning when the doctor said I didn't have an ideal uterus.

I'm really struggling with what to do now. My gut says I should go straight to the gynecologist, but logically, I'm thinking maybe I should follow the doctor's advice...

If I may be honest, I think your GP is a bit overreacting with the obsession, damaging your uterus, etc... You've been trying for a year and it's not working, which makes you insecure at least that's how I felt. You just want to know that everything is okay. If you know everything is okay, you can always decide to give nature another chance. I'd just let your GP be and make an appointment with a gynecologist. They're also good at dealing with couples who want children, and even if something is a deeply rooted wish, it doesn't have to be an obsession :-) Don't let anyone fool you, follow your gut and do what feels right for you.
