Pregnant, what now?

Hi,

I don't have a relationship, but I am sexually active, regularly with the same person. We use contraception. But apparently, something went wrong there.
I was 4 days late, took a pregnancy test, and yes... I'm pregnant.
Now I don't know what to do. I want more children, but not like this.
The man in question is a good friend, but I don't know how to tell him...
I also don't know whether I should keep the baby or not. I really wanted another child (I already have 1 child from a previous relationship, the relationship with the father is very strained, my big fear is ending up in such a fight again. I had already decided for myself that I wanted to get pregnant via a sperm bank). If I keep the baby, and the father wants 50/50 custody, I don't think I can handle that....
If I don't keep the embryo, and I never get pregnant again, I don't know how I can live with myself.
How on earth do I tell my circle, and especially the person who is the father...
I just don't know anymore....

Oh my, that's a tough situation!

I'd bring the subject up with your boyfriend in question to see how he feels about kids.. See if you two find each other attractive, maybe there's a nice future ahead.. If you're unsure, I'd definitely avoid making a hasty decision!!

How far along are you now?

A couple of months ago, I brought up the possibility of a relationship, and he told me I’d had my chance, but that he didn’t want it back then. I think we both struggle a lot with attachment issues due to our pasts.

I know he really wants children. But he believes in the ideal scenario: first a relationship, then moving in together, and then maybe kids.

I only found out yesterday that I’m pregnant, so I’m still in the first month. I don’t want to have an abortion. Not telling him isn’t an option, because our lives are too intertwined—same town, same friends... In the end, we’re just sexual partners who sometimes come together when we need someone to listen. But that’s all there is...

Well, at least the wish is there. Playing with an open card is always the best, of course. And reading your story, it seems like there have been feelings on both sides, and maybe even more on your side. I think his spark could start burning again once he gets used to the idea. You already have a nice foundation, listening and intimacy.

How old are you? What's your first step?

We're not young twentysomethings anymore, I'm 36, he's 38. He was also my very first love. A long time ago ;-)
Open card... I'm scared of it, but that's usually the smartest way to go é...

I could already taste that you're not in your twenties haha. I'm 33 myself.

But your age does play a role. Actually, you're blessed to have gotten pregnant! I understand the circumstances aren't ideal, but at your age, despite precautions, you're still pregnant... That baby just really wants to be born to you two

I'm really curious how your boyfriend is going to react..

Well, Nannie, 36 is super young, haha! I am too
But wow, what a tough situation.
But no matter how difficult it gets, I’d also play with an open hand. I believe that’s the best and most honest approach for the baby too. But phew, that’s quite challenging.
