Hi,

Our daughter is named Bente and we're expecting a little brother soon. My partner and I can't quite decide. Does anyone have any nice ideas?
We like short Dutch names along the lines of Siem, Mees, Juul, Guus, etc.

I think Joep is nice and Dutch-sounding.
Or Bram.. but I don't know if you want the same initial.

This isn't practical with things like mail, unless you go with a second name.

    Good luck with your search!

All your names came up in our search too, haha.
We also considered: Teun, Tijs, Niek, Joep, Jent..

Good luck with choosing, with Bente basically anything goes!

Our list (we haven't figured it out yet either) I can share. Maybe you'll like it:

    Tijmen
    Ruben
    Pepijn
    Lucas
    Rens
    Gijs
    Sam

I know a Benthe with a little brother Julian

Thanks for your replies. There are some nice names listed, and a lot of them have already come up. Unfortunately, I often find a name beautiful while my partner doesn’t, and vice versa. We both like Juul, Zjuul, or Jules. But how do we spell it then?

For a boy, I'd go with Jules.
Our girl was actually going to be named Juul, so personally, I think that's more the female version of the name

Definitely go with Jules then. People will get used to it naturally.
    Or maybe Duuc / Duuk?

    Bente and...
    Thijs
    Rijk
    Mat
    Mats
    Niels
    Loek
    Joos
    Joes
    Ties
    Gijs

I know a couple whose kids are named Bente and Ferris.
I think that also fits well.

Good luck with your search. We also find it really hard to find a nice name...

And if not, Julian will naturally get shortened to Juul, that's my experience.

I really like Juul! But it's definitely more of a girl's version, indeed. But I find Jules to be much less appealing!

What do you think of Guus?
  11. Irma Guest #12

Hi! I think Guus is nice.
  12. Anoniem Guest #13

I totally agree with you, mom. I'm wondering if I find Juul boyish enough, and I think Jules is less appealing... Then you also pronounce it faster as "zjuul," and that's not what I want either.

I think Guus is really nice, but my partner doesn't like it so much. Pfff, it's really tough.

Thanks anyway for thinking along and for the tips!

    Daan!
That’s been my favorite boy’s name since I was young.
My partner thinks it’s terrible, and since he has an Indo background, I guess I can forget about that name hahaha

    Lars?
    Thor?
    Björn?

Ok, it's Scandinavian instead of Dutch, but it's nice and short.

I know a little boy, Sjuul. You really pronounce the S, and everyone understands that he's called Sjuul (sounds a bit like Zjuul).
