Eva or Feline

Hi,

I had already opened a few topics about names earlier, sorry.
Still curious to hear your opinion on the following:

After sleeping on it for a night, we've decided that our daughter will be either Feline or Eva.
Only still unsure which of the two.

Our son is named Daan.
If I just look at what I think sounds the nicest together, I'd choose Eva and Daan.
But I just find Feline a bit less boring than Eva.
Eva rolls off the tongue more easily, but it's quite standard (boring?)

What would your preference be?

Both are lovely names. But I'd still go for Feline

I totally get you. But personally, I wouldn't choose based on what sounds better together or look at that. I'd go more with what touches my heart the most. Where you feel happier and more at peace. I'd go for Feline As I mentioned before, I really wanted that name for our girl, and secretly still do hehe. But my partner just didn't see anything in it at all, unfortunately. Feline is a lovely name and sounds really beautiful. Eva does feel a bit boring to me, indeed. You also have to think about it: soon they'll be living on their own, so it really doesn't matter anymore if the names match. They're two different individuals after all. Your kids. So girl, I'd say go for Feline

    Eva!

just via phone for now, anonymous.
    Thanks for your replies.
Haha it's so hard, I like both names.
Madelene I'm really curious about the names of your kids, since we're on the same page with Féline.
But I understand if you'd rather keep that private.
Wishing you lots of luck with the birth, just a little more waiting

I don't think Eva is boring at all. I think it's a beautiful, timeless name that suits a baby well, but also an adult woman. It also looks really nice with Daan. Less important later on, but still nice for now if it fits. I also prefer short names myself, so Feline wouldn't be on my list anyway. Good luck choosing!

If you're a cat lover, I'd say Feline, but in all other cases, Eva!

    Thanks for the replies.

I think Eva is: sweet, tough, and incredibly pleasant to say; the name fits well with us and with Daan.. Only well, you know, just like Daan it's a fairly standard name and I'm sometimes craving a bit more sound and depth... If the upcoming baby had been a boy, I wouldn't have gone for Daan and Bas either.. Two short names together feels a bit cliché to me..

Feline: I think it's a beautiful name, sweet and soft, and I find it less boring than Eva.. I also think it looks really nice written down.. I have to get used to the pronunciation.. Because it has three syllables and I always focused on short, simple names..
I'm not a cat lover, but the name Feline also has another meaning.
I find it so difficult... haha.. On paper, Feline is truly beautiful, but when I have to pronounce it I sometimes have to get used to it.. Because I always have short names in my head.. But I could of course shorten it to Fay, if I can't get used to a longer name.

Eva was at number 1 until last week... then I started doubting, my nephew also named his child Eva and I suddenly didn't see it as a special name anymore.. It still sounds very good and familiar when I say it (more familiar than Feline)..

Why do you think one name is more beautiful than the other?

When I read your story, I’d definitely go with Eva. It was your first choice, it felt right from the start, and you like how it sounds. You say you need to get used to Feline. I think you’ll regret it if you can’t get used to it. I understand what you’re saying about liking how a name looks written down, but you’ll mostly be saying the name out loud. So I’d say it’s more important that the name sounds nice than that it looks nice.

I personally think Eva is more beautiful because it’s a short name. I prefer that. But also just because I’d rather hear it. Simple, but lovely.

I don’t think Feline is a bad name either, but it’s just not quite my thing.

Anne, thanks so much for your reply.
Do you have kids yourself? With short names?
Anne is actually a name that was also high on our list
Yeah, I think you're right... Eva really sounds better to me and fits us better, it even fits us really well.... Eva and Daan really go well together..
We really love short Dutch names, but suddenly I started to doubt (at 32 weeks pregnant).
I felt like I had to step out of my comfort zone, otherwise it would become boring..

I'll think about it some more, but I think you're right, staying true to yourself is the most important thing..
My husband thinks both names are beautiful and wants me to make a decision, which is nice

Hi Lief1234, I'm also torn between two names (Venna and Nila). Nila is my husband's number 1, but he thinks Venna is nice too, so I have to choose???
Eva was my third option. I was afraid I'd find it too standard, but it is and remains a lovely, strong yet sweet name. Since you say Eva feels good and familiar, I think you might regret choosing Feline. Or Felien is another option (you can also write it your way), it's only two syllables.
    Good luck with choosing!

The question marks should be ..

    Butterfly, thanks for your input!
    I'm leaning towards Eva again.
    It feels the most familiar.
Have you made up your mind yet?
Funny how our guys let us choose
I think Venna is beautiful!! Nila too, but Venna is even more beautiful.
  13. Vlinder #14

Maybe it helps to say out loud that you've chosen Eva. You'll notice naturally if you start doubting again I'm trying that with myself too. My preference is Venna, and I'm trying to stick to that now. It's still tricky; right now you can still go in all directions..
  14. Emily Guest #15

I'm going with Eva. Beautiful name, especially combined with Daan. Just go for it, I don't mind at all that the name is quite common! It just shows it's a super beautiful name!

    Thanks Emily!
Indeed, Butterfly, I've made the decision for myself this morning.. It's really going to be Eva
And I feel completely good about it now! I find it a really unpleasant feeling when I haven't made the decision yet
Are you going to make the decision too?
How much longer do you have?
  16. Emily Guest #17

Great that you've made a choice! It must bring a certain sense of peace!
  17. Lief1234 started this #18

That does give you a bit more peace, Emily.
Just finished the birth card and it all feels in its right place
  18. Vlinder #19

For now, I've pretty much made up my mind, hopefully it stays that way. I still have 6 weeks to go. And you?
Super nice that the name Eva feels completely right now!
  19. Lief1234 started this #20

Butterfly, that's cute and it'll work out too.. Let me know what it ends up being?
I'm still about 7 weeks away from my due date.
But I think they'll be induced a bit earlier.. She's ahead in growth and weight.

Anne, I really like F.aya and L.ois too!! It's tricky when you both have different tastes.
I'm so frustrated with my husband's lack of effort.. He keeps making me come up with the names, only saying if he doesn't like them or if he thinks they're pretty.., but refuses to help decide..
