Graduation presentation on cesarean section
Hi Maartje,
I had an emergency C-section back in the day. My tailbone was tilted, and after a nearly full delivery, things went south at the very end.
What I personally found really unsettling was how fast everything happened. While I was still having contractions, I heard a nurse shout something about a resuscitation cart coming in? It turned out to be the incubator being wheeled into the OR, which was quite extensive.
An emergency C-section just happens so fast. There’s no time to mentally prepare or get settled. Before you know it, you’ve already had a spinal block.
I wish I’d known more beforehand about how it would go, what it entailed, etc. I’m talking about 10 years ago, so things might have changed a lot by now.
I’m pregnant again now. I wouldn’t mind having a C-section, but I’m dreading the recovery because I found it quite intense. That might have been partly because I already had full dilation, etc., and lost blood both vaginally and during the surgery.
People tend to think of it lightly, but I find it a major procedure.
Best, Nicole
