oops, gender seen

When I was 19 weeks and 2 days pregnant, I had a 20-week ultrasound. Naturally, they asked if we wanted to know the gender. We didn’t.
Since I have a kidney condition, I’ve been under extra monitoring by my OB-GYN. I went in again yesterday, and now I saw the gender on the ultrasound... and there’s no doubt about it because I actually named it.
The OB-GYN paused the image right between the legs, so I saw that there was a little penis.

Now I’m wondering if I should just tell people around us. I already know, and I think it’s hard to keep it quiet anyway.

    Hey Miriam,

    Congratulations!
It's a shame that you already found out the gender when you actually didn't want to.
It's up to you whether or not to tell everyone.
I'd like to know myself and will tell everyone.
But the choice is yours. You could keep it quiet for as long as possible if you don't want to tell anyone, but that seems pretty difficult to me!
    Good luck with it!

    Hi Mirjam,

Oh, so that's my fear, right? What you went through!
We don't want to know either, but I'm afraid I'll still end up searching during the 20-week scan...

It's really nice that you know now though? A little boy!!!!! Congratulations, girl!

And regarding the rest, if you can keep your mouth shut, just do so, it's still a surprise for them. And if you can't, then just tell them. We also found out from the sisters-in-law here, and nowadays it's "normal" that "everyone" already knows what's coming.

A friend of mine really managed to keep it a secret until her little girl was born. You’ve just got to be able to do that. Sometimes with all those tricky questions, they try to find out in all sorts of ways.
Maybe it helps to just talk a lot here about your future little boy instead of your family and friends.
I myself was too curious not to ask the gynecologist what it was going to be.
Meanwhile, everyone already knows what it’s going to be, and most of them already know what he’s going to be called.
I don’t think it’s that important as long as he comes into the world super healthy
But that’s probably also because of everything we’ve all been through.
    Greetings, Liena

    Hi Miriam,

You can also just pretend you don't know, keep it nice for yourself, and when the little man is born, everyone will know soon enough. It's up to you, what do you want?

I only told my family. And that’s because I really needed to process the disappointment of already knowing. We’re keeping it a secret from our friends and, for now, also from my partner’s family (because someone passed away last night).

Secretly, I’m glad it’s a boy. It just felt like the best fit for the son I already have. He really needs a little brother.

Anyway, it’s nice that we no longer have to focus on two genders. And we still have all our son’s stuff stored in the attic.

Anyway, I’m happy with the reactions.

Condolences on the loss. Was it a family member who passed away, young or old?

Enjoy yourself and it's nice that you don't have to buy everything again..

With our first, we kept it completely quiet. My partner did tell my sister, which actually worked out well later when I ended up in the hospital.
I could also leave things with her that I had ordered online.

Now, during my second pregnancy, I really wanted to keep it to myself, but my partner didn't. And since we already have a daughter whom we really wanted to tell if she'd be getting a brother or sister, and we can't expect her to keep it secret, we decided to just make it known. We're expecting our second daughter!

I personally would never say the name. Then the surprise would be completely gone. But that's personal, just like with the gender.

    And Miriam, my condolences! Strength!

It's my partner's grandma. I've only seen her twice (shame on me), but she's reached the lovely age of 89. I think it was a double disappointment for my partner today. The confirmation that it's another boy (he really wanted a daughter) and then the news about his grandma.

Anyway, I'm absolutely thrilled and have already bought a first baby onesie with my mom... it's so nice to buy baby clothes again. Even though I'll probably only buy max 3 packs... everything from the previous one is still so nice.

I'm not going to reveal the name either, and definitely not because we're not even close to deciding yet. Who knows, maybe someone has a good tip... our oldest is named Sem, any ideas???

I had exactly the same thing. At some point, that little hat asked if we wanted to know what it would be, and it froze the image right on his bits. Thanks a lot...

So it turns out this happens more often than I thought. We ended up telling everyone. It just felt right. I'd recommend just following your gut feeling.

    Love, Anke
