Vayen or Nila

Hi everyone, I'm still torn between two girl names (because I like both) and know I need to decide with my husband, but maybe this helps. My husband has already made up his mind, but I'm still hesitating... It's not about the spelling of the names, but really which one sounds nicer.

Hi jessie95, thanks for your reply. My question didn't go through properly, and now I'm logged in as a guest..
I've also thought about 2 names, but we don't really go for 2 names and wouldn't use a second name anyway. So that option is out.
Which do you think sounds nicer/smoothier/lovelier?
  4. jessie95 #5

I can't help you, I find both super cute hahaha that's why I suggested a double name hihi
  5. Vlinder #6

Haha ok, funny, thanks for thinking along!

I think Nila is really beautiful and it feels a bit smoother to me than Vayen.
  7. lauwtje #8

I personally think Vajenn is the cutest of these two names

I think Nila is nicer. You hear and see Vajen/Vayen/Vayenne etc. so much already.
  9. zomaar Guest #10

I've indeed also understood that Vayen is quite often given in all variants. But despite that, it's still a beautiful name. I think it's a trendy name though.
I also think Nila is beautiful. More neutral. It might well be heard as 'Mila', but I think that's also a beautiful name.
I think Nila is just a bit more cheerful, I guess. And in any case, a bit more special. But both names are simply beautiful. :-)

Thanks! I don't hear both names much either, and I don't have many kids around me either. I think Nila is easier to pronounce and sounds cheerful, but Vayen looks/writes nicer. So difficult.. ????

    Nila! So beautiful!
  12. jessie95 #13

My little niece is named Vajenn, which is why I find it so beautiful, but you pronounce it as Vadjenn.

The Y has a pretty bad reputation right now. Just for that reason, I wouldn't go with Vayen with a Y.

    Nila is nice though.
  14. Marlies #15

I think Nila will be pronounced like Mila by people who are meeting her for the first time.

Vayen / Vajenn I think is a more beautiful name, and I also see it as a lovely name for an adult woman.

Nila! With Vayen, I have a weaker association.

Hi Vlinder. I totally get you. With our second daughter, we had a similar dilemma. In the end, we chose one name, and the other became the middle name.

Between Vayen and Nila, I find it hard to choose. But as has been said before, I think a lot of people hear Nila as Mila.

Example: I know a Nona. Her teacher first called her Lola, then Nena, then Lone, and only then Nona. After that, she never forgot it again

I think both Nila and Vayen sound beautiful. Especially if Vayen is spelled with a j.
  17. Vlinder #18

Hi Emme, thanks for your reply (and the other one too). Do Nona's parents feel "regret" about the name because of that? It doesn't make it any easier..
  18. Emme Guest #19

I don't think so. But when I heard the story, Nona was already 14, and it had happened in the first year of high school! Maybe the teacher was a bit hard of hearing.

Sorry, I'm trying not to make it harder for you guys. I think Nila is a cheerful name, and actually prettier than Mila. And something different once in a while! And if the little one has to repeat later on that she's called Nila, well, people will know how to spell it by then, I hope. My sister-in-law is called Loes, an easy name you'd say, but still people regularly ask her how you spell it. As Luz or as Loes. She finds it a bit weird herself, it seems so simple. Things like that can happen even with very Dutch names.

Don't let it influence your decision too much. Ultimately, I think I like Nila better than Vayen. It sounds a bit more cheerful. A bit cheeky.
