Take your time to reply, Floortje!
How did you know for sure that you were ready for kids? I just can’t stop thinking about it. I do know that financially it would be easier in a while. But on the other hand, you can make it as expensive as you want..
Sometimes I just wish you could put your feelings on pause for a while. But in my head, I’m already completely decorating the nursery..

Are you still working Floor, or are you staying home with your child now? Due to circumstances, I can't follow the training I really want. Sometimes I think about just staying home to take care of the child. Maybe work part-time alongside it, but preferably when he/she is a bit older. Of course, if it works out financially.
Sorry that I'm overwhelming you with everything, but I don't really have anyone else who understands my situation.

Well, when are you really ready for it? That's pretty hard to say. I always wanted kids at a young age, but I ended up having my first child after turning 28 because my partner wasn't ready yet. Looking back, I think it was better that it happened at that point. Finances are easier now.
Of course, money isn't everything, and the child will grow up anyway. But personally, I find it really nice to have a car in the driveway, a single-family home, and the ability to buy things we need.
If you both feel like: we're truly ready and can offer our child something. What's holding you back?

    Hi Girl7,

I was 22 too when I had my first. I was already married, but in my opinion that doesn't make a difference. If you really want a baby (and your partner does too), then you should just go for it.

I always worked and took courses through my job (part-time). It wasn't always easy to juggle everything, but where there's a will, there's a way. The advantage is that when you're young, you have lots of energy.

My kids always came first, and they never lacked anything. Designer clothes and expensive vacations weren't part of the picture; it's all about setting priorities.

We worked hard to build our life, and I've never regretted our choice to have young children. We have a good life.

Follow your gut. You know yourself better than anyone else. If you feel ready, independent, and mature enough, what's stopping you?

    Good luck!

Well, that's a very personal thing! And not unimportant either: how does your partner feel about it?
I think it's important that you can give your baby what it needs (first and foremost love, but also a bit of money for diapers, school, and everything that follows). And then you can follow your feelings after that.
Personally, I regret that I didn't start a year earlier, but that's also because it doesn't happen without medical help, and we're a bit older (meaning late 20s, so luckily still time). In most cases, it usually happens 'naturally', so you can choose a moment when it's welcome.
Good luck with the decision and your feelings!

Hi, I'm 21 and stopped the pill in October because we really want kids.
We both have stable jobs: I work 28 hours a week and my boyfriend 40.
We've been living together since August, so it's definitely the right time.
We've been actively trying since last month.

    Hi there,

I'm new here too and love exchanging experiences!

We've also decided to go for a second baby!

Got the IUD removed, period's back! Super exciting..

Thanks for all the replies, everyone!

I've talked it over well with my partner. He's not quite ready for a kid yet and thinks it's better to wait for now.
We've decided to try for a baby around the time we get married (so about 1.5 years from now). That way we'll also have time to save up a bit for various things. And for me to figure out whether I want to pursue further education or not. It's nice to read that many people can just combine it anyway! Including the training options available through work etc.
I just started a new job, which means I luckily have a bit less time to dwell on it. Focusing on something else for now.. On one hand it's tough that it can't happen now, but on the other hand I wouldn't want it to happen now either since my partner isn't 100% on board. In my opinion it's still a decision you should make together. So we'll wait a bit longer and enjoy my little nephews even more in the meantime.
