Naming after Hendrika

21 replies · page 1 of 2

Linda
My mom's name is Hendrika. I'm looking for a smoother version of this name, but I can't think of much more than Henriette or Rica, etc. I don't really like any of those! Do you have any tips?

My mother-in-law's name is Emmeke, and we want to use Emme for our baby.

By the way, this is just for our future wish list; we've already decided on the names for our daughter. But I love to daydream about later!

I just did a quick Google search for you and came across these:
    Henriette, Jet, Jette

I think they're nice names and still very modern. Our oldest is also named after my father Hans (Johannes), and we chose Jonah back then.

    That's so nice, Jonah!
Jet/Jette doesn't really appeal to me either; I had a really unpleasant experience with someone named Jet! That kind of sticks with you...
I've also been googling, but I find it a tricky name for naming purposes haha! It helps that my mom doesn't think her own name is so great either, so she won't feel passed over so quickly!
The girl I'm pregnant with now will be named after my maternal grandmother, with whom I was very close. I think my mom will probably find that really nice too!

I know a girl named Hinde, named after Hendrikje. I think Hinde is a nice name, and I like Hendrikje too! Another name: Henrieke.

    Rica isn't bad either.

No worries, Madelene. I ended up having a C-section, so I have to wait at least six months before I can get pregnant again. And then we'll see... no rush!
Has your third daughter been born by now? Did everything go well? And what's her name?
  18. Anonymous Guest #19

Erika is, I think, the official abbreviation..

Hi Linda, oh okay, I get it
Yes, our third little girl was born. Her due date was March 18th, but she was born on March 24th.
They had decided to induce her on Friday if she didn't come on her own.
But she was born on Thursday instead.
It was a very quick birth, only 15 minutes total. They wanted to go to the hospital,
but because it went so fast, it ended up being a home birth.
    Her name is Jasmijn Fleur.
