Nickname - official name

Back in the day, you could specify a "baptismal name" and a "nickname" at the municipality. That's no longer possible in the Netherlands. That would mean that on all official documents, only Theodorus would appear.

When I was born, it looked like this on my ID card:

Carolina Maria
We call her Karen

My nickname isn't on my ID.

What I'd do on a birth announcement is put the nickname at the top and then write the full name with surname below it in a slightly different font. I think that would come across clearly.

Aah, we had that dilemma too. We wanted to put it on the card like this:

    Born! 'Nickname'.
Her full name is: 'Birth names'

We ended up choosing 3 names so that the nickname would also be an official name. But we did hesitate for a while!
