Dutch or English pronunciation?

I don't really like English first names with a Dutch last name. It gives weird combinations.

That said, I can see Jim (Dutch pronunciation) de Jong, if you ask me.

I actually think it sounds good together. Both in Dutch and English pronunciation. Just go for it!

We want to use the English pronunciation ourselves, so "Jim" for the boy, but we're hesitating because it becomes J.D.J. and whether people won't stumble over it when saying it, you know, haha, because it kind of sounds like D.J. - D.J. due to the English pronunciation.

If people can't pronounce it or choke on it, then they have a speech impediment haha. Jim de Jong, I have absolutely no problem with it anyway and wouldn't make a big deal out of it either.

If you're still hesitating, just go with your maiden name How does that sound?

    Thanks for the nice comments!
So it would be Jim Janssen, so we’d rather go with Jim de Jong
It’s still my favorite name, but my husband is a bit hesitant, so I still need to convince him!

Yeah, then I think Jim de Jong sounds nicer too.

And you know, how often are first and last names actually used? Usually it's just on paper, but once you've introduced someone, you tend to stick with the first name afterwards.

    Love Jim! Or Jimmy

Nice name, Jim! I don't see any problem with the pronunciation

I don't find "bekken" so appealing.

So Djim de Jong, then (English pronunciation). The Dutch pronunciation works fine.

I say let's do it! Sounds super fun.

    Great, just do it.

I don't think it's such a nice combination. I think a first name with two syllables would look better with the last name De Jong. For example, Jelle de Jong.

I don't think Jim de Jong is completely wrong, but I agree with Hummel that two syllables works better with the last name!

    Thanks everyone!
We're still really unsure, but we've got a bit more time
On the one hand, we don't really like 'bekken' with the last name unfortunately, but on the other hand, Jim remains my favorite name and I can't find any other name appealing anymore haha

Then just going through the name lists again is the best choice for now. Good luck. You could also look into two-syllable names indeed.

    I like it. Sounds good!

Nothing wrong with Jim, I think!
And maybe a second name? Jim ... de Jong?

    So cute!

Such a lovely name! And I don't see any issues with the last name!
