Pregnant and eating and drinking

Hi everyone,

Just found out we're about 4 to 6 weeks pregnant We're super happy. But I already have some worries because during the past few weeks I've eaten and drunk all sorts of things that aren't supposed to be consumed during pregnancy.
I'm thinking of things like American-style steak, red meat like steak, and now and then a glass of wine.
Now I wonder if this is harmful to our baby....
I'd love to hear from you.

Best wishes and have a nice weekend, a very happy mom-to-be with two on the way I hope.

    Congratulations on your pregnancy

In the first few weeks, you don't know yet, and I think many moms do that. But I don't think the baby can feel anything from it. As long as you take it into account now. I myself drank alcohol and ate unwashed vegetables during the first few weeks of my pregnancy with my son.

The first 2 weeks of a pregnancy, the baby isn't there yet. Then there's fertilization with ovulation (week 2 or 3), and then the journey of the fertilized egg to implantation. Only in the last week (around week 4) is the baby implanted, and everything starts growing. So I don't think it's really a big deal.

    Hope this helped

    Congratulations on your pregnancy...
The alcohol and the food you mention are indeed harmful to your baby..

Read this article, I thought it was the first six weeks without a blood barrier but this research contradicts that..
I hope you don't do it anymore now but I don't think so...

Oh my goodness, I didn't know that! I thought it was fine for the first few weeks. Good thing I know this now; I won't drink any alcohol over Christmas either. Thanks, mavanmi.

I didn't know either, but I don't drink alcohol and I don't eat filet or red meat

Yeah, I don’t eat filet or red meat either, but on special occasions like Christmas, birthdays, New Year’s, etc., I do allow myself a glass of wine or cava. But not anymore now, as long as we’re trying to conceive.

Hi! Now that you know, I’d just start eating really healthily, because the baby only gets vitamins and minerals from what the mother eats. The baby is very dependent on your diet for growth and development.

It’s important now that you start eating healthily from this point on. Think of it as making up for the time when you weren’t yet aware that you were pregnant. It’s always important, in every phase and every trimester, to eat healthily for your baby.

For example, take a multivitamin and mineral supplement for pregnant women. I myself take Mama Complete by Davitamon with fish oil, because you can’t eat fish every single day. And fish oil is especially important for the proper development of the baby’s brain.

Each trimester, the baby in the womb needs a different type of vitamin to grow. Everything is specially balanced in these multivitamins for pregnant women and their babies.

It’s impossible to get the exact right amount of nutrients for your baby from food alone throughout the entire pregnancy. So I’d definitely take a supplement alongside a healthy diet. For the whole pregnancy.

I’m currently on my third jar

I don't know if it's already been said, but in the first few weeks of pregnancy, the baby doesn't eat through the placenta yet, but is fed by the cake around the embryo, or something like that, hehe. But I was told that it's no harm. It's only at 8 weeks that your baby starts getting everything through the placenta.

    Yeah, that’s true.
But your body is already working hard for your little one, even if the placenta isn’t fully formed yet.
Still, the condition of the placenta
    depends on your diet.
SO the healthier you are already, the better those first building blocks are, you know.
You help your body keep the placenta in better shape, which is beneficial
for the baby who gets those substances that way.
    But I understand you
I have to be honest and say that I smoked one cigarette after my positive test.
And then I made a deal with myself not to smoke anymore.
    And I stuck to that
Actually, I wasn’t even smoking a pack a day before my pregnancy.
But I always had two during my work breaks.
To calm down. Bad habit, I know, it’s pure poison, but that’s just how I always did it. But now that I’m pregnant, no more. I’m trying to calm myself down.
And then I just have a bit of stress. I tell myself, Madelene, you’re just going to get through this. Because my little girl in my belly doesn’t need to take in four thousand mixed cancer-causing toxins just because I need to calm down.
Sorry for saying it so bluntly.
And it really helps me not to smoke during breaks.
I was told that a baby in the womb takes in four thousand cancer-causing toxins if the mother smokes.
What I’m trying to say with this whole story is
that I smoked one cigarette right after the test.
After that, I didn’t touch another cigarette, started taking vitamins,
and started eating even healthier than I already was.
The four cigarettes I had left, I gave to a colleague of mine who also smokes.
Now, even after her birth, I’ll still need to eat healthily and stay away from cigarettes because I’m going to breastfeed.
And nicotine gets into breast milk, so that’s not a good combination.
I won’t be able to smoke again until 5 or 6 months after the birth.
And then I’ll just do what I did before my pregnancy, only during my work breaks when I want to relax and unwind.
At home, I never smoked anyway.
Sorry, I went off on a tangent, but I just needed to get it off my chest.

But Ellen, you don't need to worry about it here. As long as you pay attention to eating and drinking healthily now that you know, and the rest I already mentioned. But don't worry, just make sure you know from now on.
Eat healthy for your little one
