Hi, what do you think of the name Jaylano and Jayjay? When you say it out loud, do you also stumble over Jayjay? And when I write it, I have to think about Jayjay because it feels repetitive to me. What do you think?

I just think Jay is much nicer

If I have to choose between these two,
    Then without a doubt, Jaylano.
    Nice name.

Jayjay translates to Dutch as Jantjejantje. That's pretty childish if the boy is older than four years old. He'll have to deal with his name his whole life, even when he's in the nursing home.

I personally think Cjay is prettier than Jayjay.
But I'd just go for Jaylano

I'd go for Jay or indeed Jaylano. You can always use Jayjay as a nickname when he's still little.

In "De tijd van nu," no one translates Jay to Jan anymore.
I know a Jayjay and never knew it meant Jan, like many of my peers, I guess haha

No, I didn't know that either, Jessie 95

But in English-speaking countries, they know that, and a big guy with a baby name does look a bit weird.

Josjejosje can also be used as a translation, depending on whether you derive it from Jay (John/Jan) or Joseph (Jozef).

Joey also means Jantje, by the way.

Well, I wouldn't worry too much about other countries hahaha. There are people named Dick there too hahahaha.

    Jaylano

    Just Jay, beautiful.
  13. lauwtje #14

    I'd go for Jay

I personally find Jay a bit boring.
    Jaylano looks nice to me.
People can always shorten it to Jay if they want.

Jessie, I think it's actually important to check whether a name causes any weird issues in the major world languages (English, Spanish, and French). The Netherlands is quite small, and who knows, kids might travel a lot later on—or even more importantly, live and work abroad.

In England, young people aren't called Dick anymore because Americans laugh at them for having a name that sounds like "penis." In the Netherlands, Dick is also out of fashion now.

I think Jayjay sounds like a nickname. For Jay or Jaylano.

Sorry, but I find both of them quite ordinary.
