Hi! I'd really like to name my daughter after my mother. Her name is Marja. I came across the name Marya, which I find a bit more original, but I'm wondering how you pronounce it?
It will be my daughter's middle name. I could also go with Maria, but would it still be clear that I'm naming her after my mother?

It's lovely that you want to name your child after your mother! I'd pronounce Marya as Maria. It's very clear that Maria is named after Marja. It's a beautiful name too! But I also really like Marja! It's classic and not heard as often, but everyone knows how to spell and pronounce it. Good luck with choosing! -
