In the 70s, a lot of girls were named Sandra.
I find it outdated and not my style.

I mainly think you should do what you both like. And a name can only be old-fashioned if we ourselves attach value to that. Somewhere I do like the idea that these kinds of names are coming back again. Why follow a trend?

Just do what feels right for you, Luna, Sandra, or Jasmijn. Whatever your choice is, it’s a name you’re giving your daughter, and our opinions on the name don’t really matter. It’s your choice, after all. I hope you make the choice that feels the best to you. I’m sure you’ll figure it out. Wishing you all the best of luck and success in choosing the perfect name

Thanks, girls, for your thoughts on this name.
Pien—that’s exactly what I thought too.
Indeed, I don’t hear this name very often around me anymore.
But that’s precisely why it appealed to me.
The names you hear a lot these days
just don’t resonate with me in some way.
I also tried to feel, as you beautifully put it, what fits the soul of the baby you’re carrying.
But I was still curious to see how this name came across to others.

My boyfriend came up with something, and maybe it’s also a good way for you/you all to come up with a nice name.

    You write out lists like:

    Ma
    Me
    Mu
    Mo
    etc...

You do this with all the other letters of the alphabet and then stick them together until you find a sound you both like, and something beautiful will surely come out of it!

You don't hear it much for babies anymore, but it's a great name.
  7. Irma 1987 #8

Mm not particularly out of date.

    I'd go for Luna, Madelene

Sandra... It's a beautiful, warm name!
As for the names you suggested earlier, I'm still leaning towards Jasmijn or Luna! I still think they're the cutest when combined with Yara and Lemia...
What do you think of Sasha?
  9. madelene started this #10

Hi mom of Sasha, I don't think it's a nice name myself. Not my style, but thanks for thinking along
  10. Irma 1987 #11

    Suzanne Madelene?
  11. Melany #12

I don't think Sandra is a nice name. Luna is.
I also think Jada is a beautiful name. Pronounced in English.

Nothing wrong with Sandra, it's just not in fashion right now.

Sandra is a shortening of Alexandra, and that's a classic.

Thanks, girls, for sharing your opinions with me
Melany Jade is also quite nice. A bit of a tough name though. I wouldn't go for that one so quickly.
But it does sound really nice and gives a girl some character. Strong name
Guest, yeah, I thought you'd hear it nowhere these days, Sandra.
But maybe it's timeless in my opinion.
I think Irma and Suzanne are beautiful names.
My husband likes them too, but he's not really blown away by them. Luna would be his first choice.
  14. Nannie ❤ #15

    Maybe a variation on Luna?

    Lana
    Juna
    - Or in terms of sound..

    Not standard names..
    Mica
    Mehly/ Behly
    Mischa
    Marcha/Marcia
    Bronja/Ronja
    Fauna

Just give me a few examples, but maybe it helps you get started.

Sandra is fine. A few other options: Xanne, Sanne, Sanna, Saskia, Rifka, Renske, Linde, Jade, Paula, Paulien/Pauline, Lotta, Marit, Mina, Sien, Kiek, Kika, Lune, Luz/Loes, Lizz, Tessa
  16. Emme Guest #17

I also think Mare or Maren looks really nice. I believe it means sea (Italian origin).
  17. Linda #18

I find Sandra sounds so 'mature'. A bit old-fashioned indeed. I'd rather go for Sandy or Sabrina or something like that.
  18. madelene started this #19

    Linda, thanks for your opinion.
But the child will also grow up, right?

I do understand what you mean, Sandy.
Sandy is also quite nice. My husband's niece is named Sandy
  19. ii Guest #20

    Madelene,

    Just a variation on Sandra:

    Sandrine (with a D, not a B)
    Sandrina (with a D, not a B)
    Sanderijn

Maybe these names are a bit more your thing.
