Eh... I don't think it's a girl's name. Billie is a diminutive of Bill, which is itself a nickname for William. So it basically means "little William."

Besides that, it immediately reminds me of butts and the similarly named IKEA bookshelf.

Billie is a cute name, that woman from the show Utopia was called that too.

You can always come up with something less nice for every name, but yeah, in the end your baby really needs a name haha

    I don't think it's a girl's name. And for a young one, I don't like it at all either.

In my oldest daughter's class there's a boy named Billie, and my girls always make jokes about him at home. They really have the biggest laugh over it. They say "Billie billies" or something like that. Well, I can't say they're wrong; it does make me think of buttocks too. It's an American name, so it probably sounds better there, I guess. I always say as long as they laugh about it at home and not in front of him. But tastes differ, of course

I think it's really cool and brave.

Sorry, but I think the name is awful for a girl and ugly for a boy.

And it indeed means Willie/Willempie, and this baby won't stay small.

I wouldn't name my daughter that...
Billie sounds nice and sweet, but it doesn't make me think of a girl. I think she'll get teased with that name later on.

I think it's a tough name! It's on the list for a girl here, just like Bobbie.

In the U.S. or England, it’s definitely a well-known name. But since in the Netherlands it’s associated with BIL, it’s less understood here. Actually, quite logical, because no one in America would want to be called Ass or Butty, haha. And still, I don’t think it’s a weird name. My ex also has that name, although he’s a boy. And again, in England, it’s a very normal name. So it’s interesting what someone else thinks of it! If you find it pretty, just go for it! It’s your girl! And the world would be so boring if every name had to be approved by everyone.. Just follow your heart, no matter how weird someone else thinks the name is! I actually like hearing something different! Billie: just go for it!

    Cool, tough girl name!
With this spelling using 'IE', I immediately think of a girl...

I also think everyone should make their own choice about the name of their child, but I personally wouldn't choose it.

Rather something like Behly or Belle. :-)

I think it's a really nice name, so cheeky!

    absolutely nothing sorry

Quite a few mixed reactions as you can see. I think there's a real chance that your daughter won't be happy with this name at all. I would personally really take that into account when choosing a name.

I like it! But I'd also ask the same question about the name Bobbi. I'm still wondering if it'll still be cool when you're 40, but I feel the same about names like Kiki, Teuntje, etc. Maybe in 40 years it'll be totally normal. Then no one will be named Petra or Marieke anymore, and I'd rather have someone named Billie than all those over-the-top trendy names nowadays.

Besides Billie, Bobbi, Teuntje, and Kiki, there are plenty of names that work well for both kids and adults.

It's better to go with a longer name and create a nickname from it, so the child can always fall back on the full version if needed. Also better for job applications.
  17. jessie95 #18

I like them all, choose whatever you want. There are so many different names now that nothing seems weird anymore, haha.

That's nonsense. Our kids will be applying at Lola's and Lilly's soon. Then it really doesn't matter if you're called Billie or Samantha yourself.

Such a cool name, makes me think of a girl's name too...
