Joah or Jorah

Hi! We're still really torn about the boy's name. We both think 'Joah' and 'Jorah' are beautiful. Both have biblical roots, which really appeal to us. The meaning of Joah is 'brother of God', while Jorah means 'he has rebuked' – which sounds pretty negative to me, even though I think the name itself is lovely and unique.

What do you all think?

He has blamed? That's quite a harsh meaning. I wouldn't do that.

Exactly what Hummel says, yes haha. And Jorah also feels more like a girl's name to me.. On the other hand, I've heard Joa more often for boys and Jorah is quite unique, so yeah. As a parent, just follow your own feelings I think then it'll be fine anyway right

Joah is really beautiful! I find Jorah a bit unfinished sounding (from Joram).

The name sounds nice, but with that meaning... better not.

    Yeah

Our 6-year-old son is named Jorah. It also means 'the dew'. The meaning that he has blame sounds not so nice, of course. But it's a beautiful name and we're still happy with this chosen name. There's no one at his school with that name. Jora is also used as a girl's name, but for me, it's really more of a boy's name, but in these times, that doesn't matter anyway
