Big family? Who has more than two kids?

Sien
Hi, I'm Sien and I'm pregnant with our third baby. I wanted to use this space to find out a bit about what it's like going from two to three kids. I have to say I currently have two school-going boys who get along great, and I'm super enjoying motherhood... I'm really curious how it'll be with one more added... Tips are welcome. I'm looking forward to it! Greetings, Sien x

P.S. What do you think is the biggest change? What can I already prepare for regarding the practical side?

Thanks for reading, X

    Hi there,

I'm pregnant with my second child and would really like to have 4 in total with my partner. My daughter is now 9 months old and I'm 21 weeks pregnant.

    Congratulations and nice to hear.

Hi Sien, I'm pregnant with baby number 3. I'm 21 weeks now. I already have two little girls. The oldest is 6 and the youngest just turned 5. I'm also curious how it'll go with the third one. Congratulations, ladies Nice to not be the only one Greetings, Madelene
  3. madelene #4

How old are your children, Sien, if I may ask?
  4. Linda #5

Lovely topic! I'm now over 30 weeks pregnant with my first, but I dream of a big family! But well, besides that, I'd also really like for either my husband or me to be at home with the kids, especially in the first few years. And we're both just qualified as social workers, so it'll also be a challenge to make that financially possible. Ideals, ideals...
I'll gladly follow along with your findings!

Hi Linda, how many kids would you want then?
Because you mentioned you dream of a big family.
  6. Linda #7

As a kid, I always said I wanted 5 or 6 kids, but now 4 seems like enough.
But as I said, it's a dream. You never know how things will turn out or what's possible; I'm already so happy if this baby is born healthy!

Ha ha oh okay Linda, that’s quite a lot.
I always wanted 4 kids too
But now I’ve kind of given up on that idea.
Now I actually find it busy enough with 2
Even though I did go for a third.
But after this, my man wants to stop.
He actually wanted 2. He thought it was
Pretty good like this with our girls.
But I wanted a third so badly that he did it for me.
I’m very grateful for that and think it’s super sweet
He really doesn’t want any more kids after this.
Because he did this mainly for me
I respect his opinion and will stick with 3.
I think it’s beautiful enough that he did this for me.
He enjoys our princesses but is so busy with them. When I work and leave early, most of it falls on him. He wakes the kids, makes them breakfast,
Dresses them, takes them to school,
Picks them up, makes dinner in advance. Picks them up again at noon, brings them back at 1:15.
    Then goes grocery shopping.
Then picks them up again at 3:15.
And so it goes, plus he has his own job.
On Mondays and Tuesdays he’s always off.
So that’s why he finds it so much and doesn’t want more kids.
I have less work than him
Maybe that’s why it feels different for me.
But nice Linda, your first one
    Enjoy your pregnancy.
    Greetings Madelene

Yeah, that's quite a challenge! Do you work full-time yourself? It's great that your partner can do so much!
I'm currently at home and my boyfriend works full-time. It just came up because my contract wasn't renewed at the beginning of this year, but I'm actually happy about it!
My boyfriend is the youngest of four. My brother and I are the only two from my mom's side, but she remarried (15 years ago) to a man with three kids, so together we're a blended family of five. I really love big families!
  9. madelene #10

Yeah, that's definitely nice that he takes on so much. I work 5 days a week from 8 to 5.
So he's off on Monday and Tuesday.
But he works on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
He does always cook every day though.
When he works those days, he cooks in the morning for the evening.
But yeah, it's pretty intense all he does.
He also never goes out or anything.
He's basically always with us when he's off.
So yeah, your friend comes from a big family.
Then he was definitely spoiled as the youngest

That sad little doll was placed wrong, couldn't get it off haha
Super suddenly, you and your brother had 3 more sisters or brothers.
Seems very special and cozy to me
But probably heavier for parents, I think.
I have one sister who just turned 17 yesterday.
And a half-sister from my dad.
She's older than me. She's 33 now. We're 5 years apart. My dad was 18 when he had her
And was actually still too young, which is why it didn't work out.
My husband comes from a family of 12 kids.
It really depends on your first child whether you can handle more kids.
  11. Linda #12

Wow, 12! That's really a lot! My dad is the youngest of 11, which is pretty much the highest number I've heard so far! My grandma basically had a child every 1 or 2 years throughout her whole fertile life, and they were all healthy, so special!
Your youngest sister and you are quite far apart in age too, sounds nice! And do you have good contact with your half-sister?
  12. madelene #13

So Linda, your dad also comes from a large family with 11 kids.
That's really impressive about your mom, I have so much respect for that; I could never handle having them so close together.
My girls are exactly 1 year and 9 months apart. Planned that way on purpose.
But oh, how I underestimated that.
Those are the "tropical years," it really makes a huge difference whether there's less than 3 years or 3 years between them.
Especially during the second pregnancy, it was tough with a toddler, luckily my husband helped a lot.
That's why I wanted at least 3 years between my second and third this time.
It turned out to be a bit more, but that's okay.
Yes, there's a big difference between my sister and me, 13 years apart.
But it's really nice, she is and remains my little sister
    With my half-sister Melissa.
That's her name, I do have contact but not a lot. She's also busy with work like me.
But we have a good bond with her.

    Hi!

It's nice to read all these stories.
I'm 31 years old and a mom of 4 kids.
Number 5 is on the way; I'm being induced on Friday, so I'll be 38 weeks pregnant with our 5th little one.
A big family is really fun...
    But it's super busy!!!!
  14. madelene #15

    That's so true, Mel!
It's also true what I always say: you really need to be mentally prepared for having lots of kids.
It's super cozy and beautiful, all the love you get from your children.
But lots of kids also put pressure on you and your relationship, so you need to be able to handle that.
And accept that life will just be busier and you'll have more plans without immediately going into stress over it.
I'm currently pregnant with my third little princess
And if everything goes well with sleeping, and she's not a crybaby and otherwise an easy child like her sisters, then I definitely wouldn't rule out a fourth.
But first, let's see how things go with this little one
  15. Mel Guest #16

    Congratulations on your pregnancy, Madelene.
I find it quite spiritually heavy, you know.
My kids aren't far apart in age either.
Oldest is 7 years, second is almost 5 years.
Third is 26 months and fourth is 11 months. It's really busy, but also fun, especially for later on.
  16. madelene #17

    Thanks Mel

That's definitely busy with them so close together.
    Tropen years.
My girls are exactly 1 year and 9 months apart. It doesn't look hard
    But I seriously underestimated it.
It's too fast, especially I couldn't give all my attention to the oldest, as it felt like I was running around everywhere.
My husband and I also didn't have the time to really take things step by step with the oldest.
Because you're already so busy with the second one.
Even during my second pregnancy it was tough, the oldest was 1 and you couldn't explain mom feels sick, mom needs to lie down. Ned that all didn't work because she as a 1-year-old still demanded all the attention.
I found it very hard being pregnant, feeling awful and then having a 1-year-old running around demanding full attention. My mom helped a lot
But when he was working I was stuck.
So this age gap between my girls and this third one is probably much easier.
Now it's nice that my girls chat so nicely with each other and really share things. Also being naughty together, very cute.
But that's now. In the beginning it was exhausting.
And indeed Mel what you say for later it's definitely nice. They have each other as support and if they need help.
Wow, nice to hear you have 4.
    Greetings Madelene

    Hello!!

Here's a mom of 3 boys and pregnant with baby number 4. I think it's amazing to have a big family and I love the hustle and bustle that comes with it. You get so much love back.

I enjoy every day to the fullest.
  18. Mel Guest #19

    Friday is the big day...
We need to be at the hospital at 8:45.
    They'll admit me.
    Hopefully, it kicks in quickly.
With our 4th baby, it took 4 days before I even started getting contractions.
Hopefully, it goes fast this time...
  19. Linda #20

    How exciting! Good luck!
