Nelis or Kjell

My husband and I both think Nelis is a nice name, but I'm really worried about how people will react. What's your impression?

    Just to mention that we already have a 2.5-year-old daughter when the baby comes... her name is Isabelle

    I think Nelis is a really nice, unique name! Sounds cheerful and upbeat!

    or maybe you could make it Niels?

    Nelis sounds nice, but I like Niels better (Irma's suggestion). I find Kjell a bit rustic and not fitting with the chic Isabelle. Besides, some people will probably say Isabel instead of Isabelle. Kjell rhymes with Isabel. And even though the names don't look alike, I think it creates a bit of a Jut and Jul effect. The same goes for Floor and Leonoor, as proven by their saying.
    Therefore, I'd go for Nelis (secretly Niels). It's unique but common enough, and no fuss about pronunciation. Sounds both tough and sweet. Good luck with choosing.

    If you both think Nelis is the prettiest, please go for it!

    Nelis hasn't been given as a name much in the last 30 years, but maybe it's time for a comeback.
