chance of pregnancy?

Hey everyone,

Just turned 40 and was a bit careless last weekend. Had unprotected sex at the beginning of the third day of my period... Maybe weird to ask this question from someone over 40, but still... is there a big chance of pregnancy or not?

Thanks in advance for your responses!

It all depends on how long your cycle is..

I think your body is starting to "build up" again after your period. So I'd say the chance of you being pregnant isn't very high, but you never know...

Since average ovulation occurs between periods, and you said you had sex on the third day of your period, the chance seems very small to me too.

Well, if you have a 21-day cycle and had sex on day three, it's definitely possible in the worst-case scenario, assuming sperm can survive up to 3-4 days. That would put you on day 7, which could coincide with ovulation... yeah, so it could happen... but I'm just saying... it's possible... don't count on it too much though.

And another thing. Having sex while you're still bleeding can be dangerous due to the risk of infection... so be careful with that...

Yeah, I reason like Ezra—with a short cycle and good sperm quality, you have a very slim chance.
It's not that ovulation always happens right in the middle of your cycle. After ovulation, there's always about 14 days. But with shorter cycles, you have fewer days before ovulation, and with longer cycles, more days.

I also said that the AVERAGE ovulation happens between two periods.. And yes, I agree that there's a chance that she's pregnant, but still, that chance is quite small..

Yeah, I know you said "average" (no need to shout in all caps). Just gave a bit more explanation since my first question about cycle length wasn't answered..
But as we all say, the chance is very small

Yeah, it felt a bit like you were trying to correct me, so I thought I’d make it clear again that I meant 'average' haha. But yeah, we agree that the chance is small

Sorry about that, it wasn't my intention Typing has its downsides, you don't have intonation, right
