Sem as a girl's name

We're looking for a short, tough girl's name.
We really like Sam or Sem, but we're a bit worried about potential issues since it's also a boy's name. We personally prefer Sem because we want to pronounce it that way too. What do you all think about Sem as a girl's name?

    Is it also a boy's name? It's a biblical boy's name. I wouldn't go for it.

@ii the fact that Sem is originally a boy's name doesn't mean it can't ALSO be a girl's name in 2015......
You can like or dislike a name regardless of its meaning or origin—who even cares about that these days?

I think Sam sounds nicer than Sem for a girl, but just go with what feels right.

Not so fun... Sem.. I know several boys named Sem.
But if you were to call him Semmy, that could work.
Definitely do what feels right to you, but you're asking for an honest opinion, right?
Sam is definitely another option that works well.

    Good luck with your choice!

Crumb, I’d always keep in mind that almost no unisex names exist abroad. So while it might seem cool in the Netherlands to give a girl a boy’s name, across the border they often don’t get it at all. That’s why I wouldn’t do it.

I actually think it sounds pretty nice...

Just pick something you think is nice, not something they might find weird on vacation abroad... Phoe if you have to take everything into account everywhere...

At my daughter's class, there's both a boy and a girl named Sam, and it doesn't cause any problems at all. The kids just call them "girl Sam" and "boy Sam," and I find that a bit less nice. I'd rather call them Sammie or something like that.

    No, not really.

No problem with a unisex name! I actually find it quite cool! Fun... Sem for a girl...

Nice!! The English spelling would also work: Sam, pronounced "sem".

    It's a boy's name, but it's also really cute for a girl!!

That's nice!!! Summer and spring are also seasons, and yet people still name their kids that way. It's all about what you're used to, just look at Robin and Rene. I say go for it! (I think it's super cute for a girl too)

I wouldn't do it because I think Sem is more of an abbreviation than a name. It reminds me of the abbreviation for the girl's name Samantha. Plus, I don't think Sam is a nice boy's name either. But you should do what feels best for you Greetings, Madelene

Personally, I like the names Semester and Sam. They make me think of a boy????

I mean semester, sorry for the typos.

    Sem

Not so cool. I find it a bit cliché for a boy's name, and it makes me think of a nickname for Samantha when it's a girl. Plus, I know a dog named Sammy and another named Semmy... I'd go for something more original, but if you really love the name, then go for it!

    Sem... Bold for a girl!

Our daughter is also named Sem. We think it's a tough girl's name!
