Contractions?

Since this afternoon I've had severe lower back and abdominal pain. Menstrual-like cramps. They alternate and are constant now. Then it's in my back, then in my belly. Is this a sign of an approaching labor? I'm now 37 weeks and 3 days pregnant.

    It could definitely be contractions, but around this time they could also be Braxton Hicks contractions. Those can feel like menstrual cramps. Has the baby already dropped and is it already engaged in the pelvis? Another option could be a bladder infection. For safety's sake, I'd recommend calling your midwife or OB-GYN to ask if they can come by or if you should come in.

    I'm going to the gynecologist again this afternoon. The baby has already dropped and is engaged. And my UTI has been checked, and I don't have one. The pain is less than it was yesterday.
