Pregnant for longer?

Hi

8 months after I stopped the pill, I got pregnant. I had a very irregular cycle and sometimes skipped a period. I once skipped 2 months and decided to test, and yes, pregnant! We were actively trying to conceive, so I kept track of when I was on my period, but also when we had done "the deed".

From the start of my pregnancy, the midwife couldn't tell me exactly how far along I was because of my irregular cycle. I had to wait for the dating scan. That gave an estimated due date, but then the follow-up scan moved me up by a week, and the final due date ended up being July 7, 2014, based on the baby's size.

Now I've been thinking for a while that this probably doesn't add up. According to my own calculation, I'm a week further along, and my due date should be around June 30. This is because I kept precise track of when we tried to conceive. The last time we tried before my positive test was October 2, 2013. I didn't do anything else that month because I was actually waiting for my period since it was taking a really long time. On October 8 and 9, I lost some blood, which I think was implantation bleeding. I tested positive for the first time on October 27. Now, according to the midwife, I'm 28.4 weeks along, and according to my own calculation, 29.4 weeks.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this

    Hi,

Tricky thing, but I know that sperm can survive in the woman's body for 5 days, or I think I've heard 7 days. So that could cause a difference.

If I were you, I wouldn't fixate on that date, because your body really does show when the little one is ready. It can come two weeks earlier or almost later.

Make sure your go-bag is ready a week early... Then it'll definitely all go well.

    Good luck!

Peachy, I'd recommend that too; you know best. If you think you're a week further along, then assume it could come in June and have your go-bag ready earlier. Such calculations are never exact.

My due date is September 9, 2014, which matches my calculations perfectly. But when I was at the hospital for the 20-week scan, the gynecologist thought I was 22 or 23 weeks pregnant and that the calculation was off. After talking with the midwife, it turns out my baby is just ahead of schedule because it really couldn't have been conceived earlier....

Good luck with it! And let me know if you gave birth in June or July; I'm curious!

    Love, Dame
