Sleeping on my back

Hi, I just read here that you shouldn't sleep on your back due to vena cava syndrome, but if you don't have any issues, is it still not allowed?

Otherwise, I wouldn't know how I should sleep :-)

    Hi Danillah,

It's better to sleep on your left side for better blood flow and circulation to your placenta.

    Wishing you a lovely pregnancy!
    Best, Samira

And if you can't sleep on your left side but can on your right, and what if you roll onto your back in your sleep without even realizing it?

Hi! I can still sleep on my left side, right side, and on my back, and it's all going well. I'm 35 weeks this Saturday.

You should sleep however feels most comfortable for you! I can't sleep on my back at all, and just the thought of it makes me feel suffocated! According to the guidelines, it's best to sleep on your right side. Try sleeping with a nursing pillow—it really feels so nice!

I can't sleep on my back; it feels so heavy, and I'm "afraid" the cat or dog or my daughter might jump on me. hahahaha

    Hi,

It's indeed recommended to sleep on your left side. That's best for circulation, etc. It takes some getting used to, but you can learn to sleep comfortably with the help of a pillow behind your back, between your legs, or by your belly.

Do you need one now while you still can? O-)

Yeah, I sleep the best there too. I'm now 40 weeks and 4 days.

I also sometimes wake up on my back. According to my midwife, it’s no harm to the baby; you might just feel a bit dizzy or uncomfortable yourself. It’s indeed best to sleep on your left side.

sleep as much as possible on my left side. is it now worse for the baby or for yourself if you sleep on your back, stomach, or right side? it's not entirely clear to me... the baby can't suffocate or anything, right? I'm 14 weeks pregnant now.

Well, as long as I can still move around, I'll just lie however I want... When I'm further along and my belly gets too big, I'll figure it out then... With my first, I couldn't turn on or off because of pelvic instability, so I was happy if I found a position that wasn't painful... No one ever told me I should lie on my left side, mind you! ;-)

Lying on my back doesn't feel very comfortable. I already have a heavy belly, so all the gravity rests on it. I'll definitely go for a side-lying position. A pillow for support is also recommended!

So I can't lie on my left side for long because it hurts my ribs, so I'm almost always on my right side all night. Is that okay? Because they say lying on the left side is better.
