27 weeks pregnant and lots of hard contractions

Hi, I just want to share my story and see if there are any other ladies who have experienced this.
I'm almost 28 weeks pregnant with our first baby. I was already in the hospital at 20 weeks because I had kidney issues. I spent 2 weeks on bed rest. Since then, I've always had some discomfort from my kidneys, but it goes away with medication. However, since last weekend I've been having hard contractions, and they've been coming more and more frequently. Yesterday I called my gynecologist, and she advised me to go to the maternity hospital to get monitored. So we did that, of course. I was on the monitor for 30 minutes, and in those 30 minutes, I had about 10 hard contractions. Then the gynecologist checked my cervix, and luckily it was still 3 cm closed. But now I'm a bit scared that I might go into labor earlier than expected. Has anyone experienced this before and had an early delivery? Best regards, Line

    Hi Fadila,
It was the same for me—Baxter—and it's my right kidney; my left one is completely non-functional. But so far, it's helped with paracetamol and Buscopan pills. I heard from a lady yesterday that you should ask your gynecologist to check your gallbladder. I'm going back to the gynecologist next Friday and will ask her too, because that lady had the same issue—kidney swelling caused by gallstones. Apparently, if they don't check it just to be sure, your kidney swelling could persist after giving birth, and you might need surgery, which means you'd have to rest completely. With a newborn, that's not easy, of course. So I'll definitely ask them to check my gallbladder. If I don't have stones and the kidney swelling is just from the baby, that's better. If I do have stones, they'll catch it early and maybe do something about it. Resting and drinking lots of water helps a lot. Take care!

    hey fadila
sorry for the late reply xp
it depends on whether you had a big belly or not at 12 weeks. i'm 7 months now and you can barely see my belly because the baby is positioned all the way inside, which causes me ureter compression. but where are you from? my OB is in Roeselare and the one for the ureter compression is there too, and he's a very good doctor. if it were up to me, i wouldn't have gone over to him; he was going to perform surgery too, but it naturally depends on the person. i don't think you had a stone before your pregnancy, did you? otherwise you would have had discomfort?? if you don't have discomfort now, it's just normal due to the pressure from the baby. and what also helps is always sleeping on your left side and trying to turn the baby towards your left side so the pressure eases up.
    greetings line

    Hi!

I had a lot of trouble with bladder infections and pyelonephritis before my pregnancy. But I never had it checked to see if there were any stones...

I'm originally from Antwerp. I'm giving birth at Sint-Augustinus Hospital. They said that if it becomes too much for me, they'll place a stent. But I'd rather not, because it also has disadvantages like infections or immune symptoms... So I'm trying to hang in there. I lie more on my left side, but for the last 2 weeks I've also been having trouble on that side.

Bad luck, pff. I just hope I don't have kidney stones and that I can enjoy myself after giving birth. When is your due date? Mine is April 18th, but if I have a lot of trouble, they'll apparently induce labor at 37 weeks.

    Greetings!

    Hi Fadila,
Yeah, I think you'll still have some issues after the birth. The best option would be surgery, but it does have its downsides too. My due date is April 30th, and I'm really looking forward to holding our first baby.
