Baby who hiccups a lot

Hi ladies,

I'm 35+3 weeks pregnant with our first baby and I've noticed she hiccups a lot! Normally she has them about once a day, but last night, for example, she hiccuped no less than 3 times. I was wondering if anyone knows if this has a specific meaning and if there are other mums with the same experience.

It can't be harmful, right? :-)

Best wishes

    Hi Zina,

My youngest daughter had hiccups at least 3 times a day while in the womb, and they’d last about 10 minutes each time. And quite strongly too—you could actually see my belly going up and down. She’s now 10 weeks old, perfectly healthy, but still gets hiccups quite often. Almost after every feed.

She doesn’t seem bothered by it at all, so it really can’t do any harm.

    Best wishes

My oldest also had hiccups a lot. Not every day though, and especially when I just got into bed. I don't remember her having hiccups often after birth either. She did eat very greedily though. She's 9 now and hasn't had hiccups since. I always found it quite funny.

My son also had hiccups a lot in my belly, and he still gets them quite often now.

I'm now over 36 weeks pregnant and my baby has hiccups at least 3 times a day! Sometimes it lasts quite a while.. I can feel her whole body "hiccuping" in my belly haha

It's because she's practicing swallowing and "breathing".. The OB says it's harmless and actually normal.
