period pain

I'm now 29 weeks and 3 days pregnant but I'm having really bad period-like pain and don't know what to do. I had a check-up last week and the baby's position was quite low; the gynecologist told me to lie flat with a pillow under my bottom, but it doesn't help. I feel the pain very low, even up to my pubic area, with sharp stabs, and sometimes I get hard contractions, especially in the evening. Can someone give me advice please? I'm scared of calling the gynecologist or going to the hospital for nothing!!!

    Hi Eraly,

It doesn't matter at all that you're calling the OB-GYN for no reason. If you don't feel right, you should always just call. That's what they're there for. That's their job. A good OB-GYN won't mind that at all. In fact, they'd rather you come in than not come when you don't feel right.

Hardening of the belly is nothing serious in itself. It's normal during pregnancy, but I can imagine it scares you! Your belly shouldn't feel painful yet. If it does, it could be false labor, and that's still a bit early for that. In that case, you really need to take it easy!

The pain you describe sounds like round ligament pain. Did you happen to grow a lot in the last few days/weeks since you started having the pain?

No, it's stayed about the same.
