no maxi cosi, sensible

Hi hi

Do you think it's sensible to skip the Maxi-Cosi and go straight for a 0-18kg car seat?

There are several models at Carrefour this week at very affordable prices. But I'm wondering about the safety of these seats at that price point, especially since branded car seats in the same category cost at least €350... :-s

Has anyone had experience with Carrefour car seats or branded 0-18kg seats?

    Hi there,

If you search on Google and look up the studies and such, you'll learn a lot. A newborn baby still needs to lie down, and a Maxi-Cosi is safe. If you take a car seat rated for 0 to 18 kg, they are not as safe as a Maxi-Cosi. This has all been tested. You can get a Maxi-Cosi for around 100 euros, and it's from the brand itself. But it's not about the brand, it's about the European safety mark.

You can also find a lot of information on the Dutch government's website: www.rijksoverheid.nl
Just type "car seat what to look for" into Google.nl.
    Good luck with your decision...

    Hi Burginella.
I don't think it's wise to put a newborn in a car seat, they're so tiny and their heads easily flop forward...

If you feel it's too expensive (and it is), you could buy second-hand items. My colleague bought all her baby stuff second-hand and it was practically new...

I also bought a car seat at Carrefour for €70, but my son only used it from 7 months old.
