Scheduled C-section or natural breech birth?

Hi everyone,
Last Monday I tried a version of it, unfortunately it didn't work out. Now I have to think about whether I still want to do a natural breech birth or have a planned C-section.
I think I'll go for the C-section, even though I find that really scary, but in my opinion it has fewer risks for the baby. If I do a natural breech birth, there's still a chance of an emergency C-section. Who has experience with this? I'm currently 37+1 weeks.

I'd love to hear from you.
Greetings,
Chayenne

No experience, but personally I’d go for a natural breech birth if the obstetricians here have confidence in it. A C-section is a surgery with all the associated risks and shouldn’t be underestimated at all. Also, don’t forget that in recent years, GPs/obstetricians have become less willing to attempt breech births, even though they can go well.

You should definitely choose what you and your partner both stand behind, because the most important thing is that you feel good about the birth yourself. But I think it’s worth taking the time to read up more on breech births and ask around, just like you’re doing on this forum

Good luck with your decision, and wishing you a nice birth in advance!

A breech birth is possible, but it really depends on how the baby is positioned. And whether it's going to happen... I'll do a C-section, as unpleasant as that may sound, because at that moment, your baby's health comes first. I'm also quite dreading it, though—don't get me wrong, it's still a surgery. Talk about it with your partner, loved ones, or maybe someone you know who's had a C-section and can share the pros and cons.

    I'm 37 weeks and 2 days today.

    Hi chayenne,

Our baby is also in breech position and I’ve chosen a planned C-section.
The date is scheduled for today.
I’m fully aware that a C-section is a major procedure and that recovery takes longer than after a natural birth.
But I can’t imagine that a breech birth could be better than a C-section.
Of course, everyone is different and every baby and every birth is unique, but for me, a breech birth is truly my worst nightmare. If it can’t be avoided, I’d rather have a C-section.
As I mentioned, you have to make the decision yourself, but I wanted to share that I’m in the same boat as you, facing the same choices.
I’m currently 37 weeks and 1 day pregnant.
    Good luck with everything.

    Love, Patty

    Hi Iza, Irma, and Patty,

Thanks for your replies! Patty, how did your C-section go? I guess you're still recovering, hope everything went well! The choice remains difficult, but I think the same as you do. I made an appointment today for a scheduled C-section next week. I still want to give birth naturally, of course, and if that happens before the planned date and there's enough dilation, it'll still be a vaginal birth. But I don't think that will happen since my baby isn't on the small side, but luckily average-sized. I think a vaginal birth would be very hard and maybe not good for the baby.

Wishing you lots of strength with your recovery and enjoy your little one! Best wishes, Chayenne

Oh, I think you misunderstood me... Now that I read it myself, I understand how that happened. It looks like today is the date of the C-section... but today they scheduled the date for June 3rd, I'm only 37 weeks now.
Here they do it at week 39... unless the contractions start, then it becomes an emergency C-section.
So I can still wait a little longer..

    Love, Patty

    Hi Patty,

I was indeed already thinking that it's fast in week 37. Here they also only induce at week 39. For me, it's next week. I'll let you know how it went! I'm going to Sophia Children's Hospital in Rotterdam.

    Greetings, Chayenne

Lots of luck next week! It's exciting, isn't it? ... It's getting closer here too.
I'd love to hear how it went!

    Hi Patty,
Could you let me know how it went? I deliberately didn't reply right away because you were also going to have a C-section! It's already been 5 weeks for me and I think 4 weeks for you. I found it all really scary, but I can walk again and my recovery is going well, though it's not exactly a walk in the park. And I find it really tough that you can't do much or are not allowed to do much. Luckily, everything went well and I have a healthy son.
Did everything go well for you too? Congratulations anyway!

    Greetings, Chayenne
