Restless legs!! Help!

Hey ladies,

I'm wondering if more of you are experiencing this and what you do about it? It's so bad for me that it's taking over my sleep, and I'm awake all night! It feels like cramps, and it's this nagging sensation that just won't stop! I have magnesium tablets... but they don't work! Because of this, I only sleep a few hours each night, and I'm feeling completely discouraged! This feeling is just awful!

Any tips would be greatly appreciated, and I hope someone can help me!

Love, Lynn

    @Lynn

I also suffer from restless legs, I already had it before pregnancy and it's now 2x worse, pffh yeah it makes you feel discouraged, you end up taking it out on everything and everyone, so tired... really hopeless... but there's nothing, absolutely nothing that helps, at least for me...

Because I really don't get enough sleep, I've already napped for a day in the hospital, got an injection in my upper thigh and actually slept well, fell asleep and slept through...

But yeah, after a few days back home and struggling with little sleep, this pregnancy really feels long, then those final heavy steps are really tough.!

Well, not really a solution for you, hopefully you'll get through it.! And you'll be free of it after your pregnancy.

    Strength.

I get tired legs when I walk or do too much, and I also tend to hold a lot of water. Now, I got some intensive leg lotion from the Mamalijn from my sister-in-law. My sister-in-law loved it and used to apply it daily when she was pregnant. I started using it this afternoon when I had trouble with my ankles again, and it cooled them down immediately—lovely stuff. Maybe it also works for restless legs?

    Hi Pris,

Thanks for thinking along... I'm willing to try anything as long as it stops! I doubt it'll help though... I think tired legs feel different from restless legs. But it's so nice that people are thinking along! How long do you have to hold onto the fluid? Hopefully the cream helps your legs! I wouldn't wish my legs on anyone...

Oh girl... unfortunately, you don't have the magic solution either, ha ha...
I'm also exhausted and would really like to go to bed! But my legs are already acting up so annoyingly that I won't even try! My left leg is worse than my right, by the way! Compression stockings, I guess you mean... yes, my mom already said try that! I'll do that tomorrow, even if it's just during the day. .. How long has this been going on in your pregnancy and when is your due date?
I'm getting quite grumpy from it too, and my husband gets everything thrown at him! We're not even sleeping together anymore! Just because of this leg whining... I keep him awake.. and when I finally fall asleep, I wake up because of him! Isn't that awful! It's not getting any better... but I sleep so lightly! That hour I do sleep, I don't even want to wake up..
Well, I guess I'll just have to... I really find it unpleasant and already feel guilty enough with my grumpy behavior...

    Call the GP tomorrow again!

    Hey,

Yeah, that magic solution probably won't exist for this problem either, although before pregnancy I had medication that helped quite a bit and I'll get that again once I've given birth.!

I've had this for years, I also used to sleep on the couch at night so my then-boyfriend wouldn't wake up so he could start the day well rested ;-)

No, they aren't real compression stockings but more like those white stretch things, but compression stockings will surely help you, for during the day anyway, but who knows, they might work wonders for you in the evening too ;-) would be nice.

My due date is May 1st, but sometimes I just can't take it anymore and hope it comes soon. It's also quite hard to explain to your surroundings, they don't get it at all, you should enjoy your pregnancy, yes indeed, but it's difficult when you're this worn out, I haven't been enjoying it for a while now.
While I'm so looking forward to my little guy, pffff, difficult.

You can also ask your midwife for Dormicum, not a super solution but maybe you can sleep through a day with it (light sleeping pills)

I've heard it's said, but apparently it's good to sit in a cold bath with your feet in it or get a foot massage ???!!!!!

    Hi Stefanie...

I spoke to the midwife today and she confirmed that too. The problem is that it only helps for a little while and then it's just as bad again! Thanks for thinking along with me!

    Rewana:

May 1st... that's already almost here, girl! Hang in there a little longer! Has your baby boy dropped down completely yet, and are there still no signs of labor? I can imagine he can come any time now! Is this your first baby?

It's indeed hard to explain and understand for others who haven't experienced this! You immediately come across as a nag. I got those long white stockings from my dad today... he wore them in the hospital for thrombosis... hi hi... they look really sexy! I'm curious if work goes well tonight! The midwife called again, but she can't do much about it either! I hope she comes two weeks earlier so I can be done with it in four weeks... but usually they stay longer then...

Lynn, I'd say that if you put salt crystals in your water, it does help last longer because the salt absorbs moisture, etc. It's just a bit annoying that your feet look a bit white afterwards, but it washes off right away when you're washing dishes :-)

    Hi Stefanie...

Today the midwife called and she said that too.

    Rewana;

May 1st... that's already almost here girl! Hang in there a little longer! Has your man already dropped completely and are there still no signs of his arrival! I can imagine he's allowed to come!

    Hey,

Indeed very sexy those beautiful white compression bandage stockings hehe ;-)
    But well, if it works....

And yes he has already dropped, but he's sitting so comfortably in my belly so
he definitely won't come any earlier okay.? And yes, this will be my 1st
baby and oohhh how happy I'll be when I finally have him in my arms. ;-)
Then I can finally lie on my stomach again.!!!

And just now when we wish for them to come earlier, they stay put on purpose
    HaHaHaHaHa
We'll just have to wait and see hehe, hopefully you sleep better tonight and otherwise
just wear those stockings during the day, I think they help.

Good luck and wishing you a nice night's sleep in advance ;-)

How did it go with wearing those compression stockings?
    Just wondering :-)

    Hey girl...

Well... it didn't work out! Except that my guy thought it looked funny and we both laughed about it! Unfortunately... I've accepted it! It's sweet of you to think of me! How are you and your baby boy? Still calm and everything in its place...

    Hope he arrives soon!

    Love,

    Ohh, what a bummer.!
Well, then keep pushing, hopefully you'll be done after your delivery.!

Everything is still calm here and no movement at all,
he's doing fine in there ;-)
But well, eventually he'll have to come anyway

Hey ladies, I don't know how relevant this is for you anymore, but try putting a bar of soap under your sheet in bed. Placing your feet on the soap helps!!!!
I'd already read about this on several sites and tried it myself, unfortunately. The itching doesn't stop, I'm not saying it's a miracle cure, but it works. Maybe it's all in my head, but it gives relief!

    Hi everyone,

The Restless Legs Foundation has launched a study on RLS and pregnancy. This is part of an international study. You can fill out a completely anonymous questionnaire. It's important for all women to participate and help move the research into the cause of this awful disease forward.

You can find the link to the study on the homepage of the Foundation ((www.stichting-restless-legs.org).
