experience with induction

I have a question: due to my gestational diabetes, our girl will probably be born at 38 weeks. Has anyone here already experienced this, and can you choose the delivery date yourself?

I was also induced due to pregnancy-induced hypertension. I found out the day before I was supposed to be induced, so I didn't really have a choice of date. The downside of induction is that your body is forced to start labor, which can lead to a somewhat unnatural labor process (for example, a contraction storm). But... you forget about that quickly, and it's better for your baby to be born on time. Wishing you lots of success I hope I didn't worry you now, that wasn't my intention; I just wanted to give you an honest answer.

I was induced last time too, went to the OB on Thursday and he told me to come back on Tuesday. I didn't really think about setting another date beforehand. I think it mostly depends on the OB's schedule whether you can choose, if he/she works every day at that specific hospital, if there are other births scheduled, and things like that.
As for the experience, I have to agree with Iza, I experienced it too, a contraction stream without many breaks, but the advantage was that I held my son in my arms 3 hours later.
I'm also being induced around 38 weeks for gestational diabetes, see that we're about equally far along, so who knows, same date :-)
Don't worry at all about the induction, just let it happen, it's the best for the baby in many cases, you can make sure your hospital bag is pico bello ready, you don't have to worry about getting to the hospital on time, etc.
Another week or so and we can cuddle our little ones! Are you looking forward to it too?

Hey, I was also induced at 42 weeks and can totally confirm the contraction storm.
The upside was that I had my daughter in my arms after just 4 hours.
With me, the date was when the gynecologist decided it was time.
They didn't really ask if it was okay, but it worked out

Wishing you lots of strength and enjoy your last few weeks!
    Xxx

Hey, I was induced for all 3 of my kids at 38 weeks, and I can say that the contractions were forgotten so quickly, and I was so happy to have my little one in my arms. I couldn't choose a date; it was always on the days he was in the hospital.
I'm also going to be induced again at 38 weeks if it doesn't start on its own earlier, and the only thing I'm scared of now is the afterpains because I've already had them with my 3rd, and now with a 4th, will they be worse?

    Greetings, Melissa

Thanks for the info! I thought it took much longer to have to be there the day before and the day after, but the contractions came. But reading this, it seems like everything can happen quite quickly.

I’ve got to go for a bit, but I think I’ll be induced soon due to pregnancy diabetes. I haven’t talked to my OB-GYN about it yet. I keep seeing a different doctor each time, and I haven’t seen the attending physician even once. Not really comforting, I have to say.

    Hi,

I was also induced with my daughter at 38 weeks. I had absolutely no dilation, so I walked around with a hormone patch for 2 days. Once I had dilation and my waters broke, I had a burst of contractions and then held my daughter in my arms. Now I'm pregnant again and will be induced again due to diabetes. I'm crossing my fingers for natural dilation. Good luck, ladies!

I was induced because my waters broke late. Since my cervix was already ripe, I could start straight away with an oxytocin drip. The dilation went well (fully dilated within 12 hours), but it was really painful So after about 3 hours, I got an epidural. If I ever need to be induced again (hopefully not), I’ll ask for an epidural right away. Some hospitals—not ours—offer this as standard for women who need induction.
