I kind of feel like I'm eating too much per day. I'm 29+4 weeks and I've gained about 4 kilos. On a day, I eat roughly 2 sandwiches, a banana (or other fruit like grapes), and dinner, with occasional snacks like Snack a Jacks or chips. Is this not too much? I really feel like I'm stuffing myself and feel like an elephant.
Sorry, but that's too little. I don't know how much you weigh now, but with these amounts you're not even hitting 1500 calories. If you're pregnant, you need an average of 300 extra calories per day.
Plus, chips and stuff like that are empty calories that don't add anything. But they're not good because of too much salt and fat. It's not criticism, so don't get me wrong. It is what it is.
Is this serious? You're eating way too little! At the midwife's office, I got a list of what I should roughly eat, and it's like 5 sandwiches, fruit, and a good dinner, plus enough dairy products on top. So I don't think you're stuffing yourself; I think you're eating way too little. I'd discuss this with your midwife.
I agree with the above, this is really not too much. It's rather on the low side, and if this isn't because you get nauseous from eating too much, I'd definitely eat a bit more (but still healthy). Your baby needs everything to grow and will take this from your reserves, so you need to make sure you're getting enough nutrients and vitamins yourself. Are you taking prenatal multivitamins as well?
Hey girls..
Unfortunately, I also think the ladies above are right.
I didn't eat much either before I was pregnant.. I've always found it really hard to eat in the mornings since I was a kid.. During my school years, I only ate dinner at home; there was no time in the afternoons and no need for it.. And I did this until I found out I was pregnant.. At first, it was difficult and I started eating yogurt in the morning and a sandwich in the afternoon, and then a hearty hot meal in the evening.. It took me a lot of effort and now I'm starving, so I eat 3-4 sandwiches in the morning, another 3-4 in the afternoon, and in the late afternoon I eat 2-3 pieces of fruit and a cookie.. And then my hot meal in the evening. And even then, I can still eat some snacks while watching TV, like a chocolate bar or an ice cream...
I had to push myself with my eating and I'm glad I did; I enjoy my food more now too.. And I'm now 39 weeks and have gained a total of 9kg. And I'd really rather not lose those kg's! I've always been underweight and now my BMI etc. is just right.. So I'm also much healthier...
So girls, try to get as many healthy nutrients as possible; you don't have to eat for two, but you do need enough so that you can absorb your nutrients too, and not have all your reserves go to the baby, because then it's at the expense of your health!
Good luck and enjoy your pregnancy!
