Forum 3rd trimester

3rd pregnancy is much more difficult

Hi ladies,

My due date is January 1st.
I already have two daughters, aged 9 and one who turned 1 in September.
I'm a self-employed trimmer. Which means taking time off isn't that straightforward... With my previous pregnancy, I actually didn't have many complaints. I had planned to stop working on September 1st, two weeks before my expected due date.
And indeed, she was born that morning. So I was able to work until my last day.
Now I'm having a lot of pelvic pain, and lifting dogs isn't going so well anymore. Since yesterday I've also been having a lot of twinges in my stomach and pubic area... Luckily, I have an appointment with the gynecologist tomorrow. I had hoped to be able to work until December 15th, but I'm starting to fear that I won't make that date.

What do you think? Should I be realistic and stop earlier, or is a 3rd pregnancy just harder on the body?

Looking forward to your experiences!

    Hi Fien,
I think it's most important to listen to your own body. Taking rest and stopping earlier might be a good idea. That way, you can return to work after your delivery without complaints. Pushing too hard now could lead to a lot of issues after your delivery. Good luck with your choice, love!

It's not for nothing that maternity leave exists...

    Hi!
Thanks for the replies. Luckily, the baby is still doing well. So I was worrying for no reason. I'll try to take it a bit easier and get some rest in time ???? Our girl weighs 2kg300 and is still positioned high up, so the OB-GYN doesn't see any reason for a premature birth.

Glad to hear that! It's also good to think about yourself too..

I wouldn't say it's definitely because it's your 3rd pregnancy. I had a really hard time with my 3rd. I mean, sharp pains, fainting from the pain, hips feeling like they were tearing apart (that's how it felt then). But with my 4th pregnancy, it all feels completely normal again, and I can actually do quite a lot. My belly isn't in the way, so why not put together a wardrobe? With my 3rd, I really had to stop working; it just had to be. Now I'm just continuing to work.

I think it's best to listen to your body. One pregnancy is not like the other, and it doesn't say anything about your 'capacity'. (I also thought my body was 'worn out', but I know better now.)

Maybe take on fewer appointments. And see if there's anyone who'd like to help out voluntarily here and there? (I don't know if that's possible.)

But most importantly, don't exhaust yourself! You'll know yourself how the first days after birth are, so you can definitely save your energy!

    Good luck!
